This is beginning to sound like a Boquete Medical Associates/Keep It Simple Panama referral list.

Not sure how to interpret your reply. First blush is that you are saying that CL is giving preference to Boquete Medical Associates. If such preference is what you are trying to say, then you are incorrect.

CL is NOT a sponsored website; there is no favoritism given to anyone. If you check it out, the healthcare resource listing is as comprehensive and unbiased as possible, and there are no recommendations given therein as to which service provider to use. It is simply a resource listing for our community to use, or not use, as they desire.

Marcelyn's reply above comes from the fact that Doug and Jo (CL's healthcare information coordinators) have been doing an exhaustive review and update of the information contained in the healthcare resource listing. We (collectively referring to Doug, Jo, and the two CL owners/administrators) were just about to release an announcement about the first major revision of that resource listing. Only four people know of that pending announcement. But then with the announcement made by Keep It Simple and Boquete Medical Associates at yesterday's Tuesday Talks at the BCP Theater (a surprise to us), we are delaying our pending announcement to be sure that Doug and Jo have sufficient time to modify the resource listing based on the new information released to the public yesterday. That is not a preference for anyone, but simply prudent operating policy on our part. The healthcare resource listing should be as accurate and complete as possible, and absent any bias -- that is our goal.

..and the announcement was?

We are being led to believe there now may be some kind of an "alliance" or an "affiliation" (but not a "merger") between Keep It Simple Panama" (Irma Smith) and Boquete Medical and Associates (Dra. Digna Diaz and her associates at Clinica Alfa).

Doug and Jo are needing time to better understand how to document and represent this new "arrangement" between two of our healthcare resources in the Chiriqui highlands area.

This was brought up at a presentation at the BCP on Oct 31st. It appears it is a work in progress. From what Irma said Alpha Clinic is expanding and will be offering more services and doctors. Evidently, they are looking for a bigger facility in the hopes of seeing folks make fewer trips to David for medical services. Irma and Alpha clinic is offering an inexpensive plan. Perhaps Irma will make an announcement here soon.

The announcement yesterday in a joint presentation by Irma and Dr Diaz at the Tuesday Talk is that Keep it Simple Panama's health advocate service will be part of the Boquete Medical Associates membership plan. Dr. Diaz did use the term "merger", but it became clear that she didn't mean that in any legal sense. Instead, KISP and BMA will share medical files on patients needing medical care or Services in David,  set up appointments with specialists, procure ambulances, and obtain discounts beyond Jubilado at hospitals and clinics.

Their goal is to provide health care for residents in Boquete as much as possible, but to get the best services in David at the best price for those matters that must be treated in that city.  It is important to note that you don't have to have a membership with Boquete Medical Associates to be treated at Alfa Clinic or to use the services of KISP.  But the membership plan does combine those services along with various discounts on Doctor appointments, dental cleanings, email consultations, death certificates, and various other benefits.

Great job here Doug and Jo. You are helping us (and others) to understand where this KISP and BMA thing is going.

Thank you.

Irma recommends Dr. Cerrud in David as a pulmonologist. I think that's close to what she said his name is. Does anybody have any information on him. He's not in the Health Care Referral List.

It's Dr. Serrud I think.  It appears to be on the list now.  I think he specializes in pediatric pneumonology, but if Irma recommends him, that's all I need to hear to at least give him a try.

I once went to a doctor at the Alpha Clinic.  I was informed that if my blood pressure, even once, ever exceeded 120/80 then I was hypertensive and needed medication.  No consideration of age, just a blunt statement. Funny, my cardiologist in David didn't agree.  Some doctors are more driven by drug company support than they should be, just sayin'.......
