PANAMA’S  Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) has issued a warning of adverse sea conditions  from Wednesday  July 26  through Sunday July 30.

It is estimated that in the province of Colón in Costa Arriba and in Bocas del Toro there will be wavesfrom five to seven feet with intervals of nine seconds. There will be winds of 37 km an hour.

Wave warning heightened after surfer dies

HOURS after  the body of a surfer was recovered   in Panama West on  Saturday, July 29,  Panama’s National Civil Protection System  (SINAPROC) extended the waves alert which it had issued  July 26.

“Despite our recommendations,  a  surfer was found lifeless today at 9:00 a.m.  on  Playa Punta Barco,” said  Sinaproc director José Donderis.

The warning  is now in place until August 2.  Originally it was from July 26 to 30.

There will be waves  two meters high with  9 second intervals in the Gulf of Panama, the Bay of Panama and the coasts of Darien, Cocle, Herrera, Panama and West Panama.

In Los Santos, the Gulf of Chiriquí and the  south of Veraguas, the waves will be between two and three meters

“We call on all Panamanians and foreigners on the Pacific beaches to follow  our recommendations said  Donderis on Twitter.

Sinaproc recommends keeping an eye on the notices issued by the authorities and “Pay special attention” to sudden sea level rise and the presence of high and frequent waves.

Floods hit 187 families, close water plants

SOME 187   families in Panama West were affected  by  flooding following heavy rain and strong winds  on Sunday July 30 .

Trees were brought down and three water treatment  plants forced to close.

The Civil Protection Agency  (Sinaproc) is coordinating humanitarian assistance for the affected families and numerous emergency operations centers have been activated.

According to the entity, among the affected points are Nuevo Chorrillo, Chapala, Nuevo Arraiján specifically Calle Octava, Ciudad del Futuro and Villa del Palmar.

Floods were also reported in the communities of El Pilón and Cativá, where there were tree falls and in Arenal de Pedasí, Los Santos province.

Sinaproc officials also monitoring  the Juan Díaz rivers. La Gallinaza, 22 Bitz Street and El Palomo ravine.

Due to thee bad weather conditions, the emergency operations center of the Curundú, Howard, Juan Díaz, Colón, Veraguas and Los Santos bases are activated.

The National Aqueduct and Sewerage Institute (Idaan) reported that the La Chorrera, Chame and Sábanita water treatment plants are out of operation

Third weather linked death

THE BODY  of a third teenager who disappeared during a weekend of heavy tropical storms was found on a Chiriqui Beach on Tuesday, August 22 after a 30-hour search.22 by members of the  Joint Task Force  (JTF).

Francisco Pittí, 17, originally from Bugaba, went  missing  on Sunday on the  Estero Rico beach at a time when a high tide  alert had been issued by the Civil Protection Agency (Sinaproc)

His body was found on the sand, at low tide the day after the JTF had recovered the bodies of two young boys, swept away by a wall of water coursing down a stream.

The tide alert remains in effect on the Pacific coast through the rest of the week.
