Letter from the President

Boquete Health and Hospice Response to the Relaxation of the Quarantine
Questions have been asked about how Boquete Health and Hospice will handle calls when the quarantine is relaxed.

Until the quarantine is totally removed, there will be no change in our policies and procedures.  There are no home visits by our members.  Any equipment that is needed must be picked up at our storage location in Alto Boquete.

For the three months immediately following the lifting of the quarantine, if home visits are requested, the following procedures are mandatory:
1)  Hospice volunteers and people in the house MUST wear face masks.
2)  Hand sanitizer must be used BEFORE and AFTER meeting with the patient or their family
3) All items must be disinfected prior to and after each use (by the volunteer)
4)  As few people as possible should be in the house (preferably just the patient and primary caregiver.
5)  Only those visits deemed necessary by our Nurse Administrator will occur.

After the three months, procedures will return to pre-crisis standards.

In regard to training and meetings, CPR training will resume after the three month waiting period.
Meetings will resume on the normal schedule, Council on the first Wednesday of the month and General Meetings on the second Thursday with the requirement that masks be worn and social distancing be observed.

In general – Boquete Health and Hospice will be handling everything with a very CAUTIOUS approach.

Equipment usage for the month of April, 2020
For the month of April, there were 14 items given to 7 people.  Due to the fact that people are staying home, we have seen a dramatic reduction in the requests for equipment.

BHH has mobility equipment available as needed as well as respiratory equipment.
While we are not doing any home visits, we are still available for equipment loan.  If you or someone you know needs a wheelchair, crutches, bedside commode, cane, or other small equipment, and can come to our locker in Alto Boquete to get it, we can help.

All our equipment is cleaned and sanitized when we receive it back and again before we lend it out, so you can be confident that it is safe to use.  Our volunteers are masked and gloved for their and your safety.

The Magic of Music

The Magic of Music Team is ready, willing and able to provide music and a player to suit anyone’s musical tastes.  If you or someone you know would benefit from this new program, please contact our administrator at 6781-9250.

How Boquete Health and Hospice can help NOW
BHH is here for you.  With the virus still active and no vaccine available, we are being extra cautious with our volunteers and are asking for our patients’ help and understanding.  The ONLY services we have stopped are the home visits, meetings and trainings.  We are still loaning equipment and acting as intermediaries for those who need blood.  As more freedom of movement is allowed, Hospice will be increasing our activities in the community.

Diane Mooney, David Wulf, Laurie Collier, Tom Mooney

We bid a fond farewell to
Diane and Tom Mooney!

Our valued members have decided to move back to Canada, and they will be sorely missed.
Diane served as Secretary, Vice President and Team Leader.  She was instrumental in updating our marketing materials; forming the member Mentor Program; organizing the logistics of our Health Fair; and implementing the teams concept.
Tom helped with the Health Fair set up and break down; bed deliveries; and joined the respiratory team.  He was always available as needed.
Diane and Tom, your heartfelt contributions to BHH have enriched our organization and we are grateful to you.  THANK YOU and BEST WISHES from us all!

Being Prepared – Hard Copy
Many of Boquete’s citizens have purchased and received a PDF copy of the newly revised Being Prepared in Boquete for Life and Death.  This is a good way to start the gathering, sorting and preparation of the necessary information.

However, the hard copy (on sale at Mail Boxes Etc.) has one distinct advantage – it is already in a spiral binder with plastic covers to help keep the information together, organized and neat.

The hard copy is available for a minimum donation of $10.00.
