I'm wondering if someone can confirm how to count the 10 days on the health certificate when importing pets to Panama. If I receive the certificate on the 1st, the animal has to arrive in Panama by the 11th, right? Or does the 1st count as the first day and the pet needs to arrive by the 10th. Also, if you've gone through this process, how many days did it take to get the paperwork back from the USDA, et al. If I have to do this over memorial day weekend and lose a business day, am I screwed? Thanks in advance for the help.

I thought I read, or heard, that someone bringing some kind of electronics through Tocuman had it confiscated. I'm interested in having someone bring a camera survelance system to us from the States but wondering if it is allowed. Does anyone have this information or an idea of where I can go to get it?

No need to be sorry, I didn't say it was a bad experience, never said no one should eat pig, was never negative about all Germans (note the word stereotypically.) And I clearly did say I asked about vegetarian. As Cloudless would say...relaaaaax. I was born in Stuttgart and have spent lots of time there throughout my years. But man I get tired of eating spaetzle and salad.

I went in there once and asked if they had any vegetarian options. Without ever looking up, a gentleman (the only person in the place) sitting at a table answered with a German accent "Of course" which I found surprising in light of the Germans penchant for eating pigs. But we sat down anyway, perused the menu and left after finding no vegetarian items on the menu. The guy didn't say a word and never even looked up. It was just a very stereotypically German encounter, which probably means the food is very good.

OMG! That must be some large pool!

Thanks Bud. I'm guessing my kitchen propane tank would limit me to a kiddie pool. I wonder if one could heat a pool with a small wind turbine... Hmm

I'm asking if anyone has had a swimming pool built in the Boquete area, not David, and if I could get an idea of how much your electric bill increased by heating it. I REALLY want a pool, but the budget...that darn budget!

I am a notary. I general, US Notaries are not allowed to notarize anything outside of their jurisdiction ie: the state in which they are a notary. One can notarize an out of state document, but both the notary and person requesting the notary must both be physically in the notary's state at the time of the notarization. There are some video notaries that have popped up in some states over the last several years. However, many places will not accept a video notary as the laws are not clear on whether they are legally acceptable, so you should ask in advance if this will be accepted.. You can use a Panamaian notary for most anything and it will be accepted in the US.

What is this event raising funds for? I've read it through and through and can't find anything. -
I wanted to provide an update to a reply I posted on Ning regarding Zika virus, which I posted prior to the serious concerns that have come to light in recent weeks. I have requested a new account on Ning but have been ignored, so I'll post my comment here. In general, Zika is a minor disease and most who contract it have nothing to worry about except minor cold/flu like symptoms. Recently, however, there is evidence that the virus may cause severe congenital conditions in some unborn babies. Over just the past few weeks, Zika has grown from being known as a mostly minor disease, to one that could be catastrophic to the unborn. That being said, the fact is that unless you are pregnant or could become pregnant, or perhaps if you have some other serious health condition, there really is no compelling reason for the majority of the population to curb travel out of fear of contracting Zika. You should be more concerned with contracting Dengue, Chikunguna or a myriad or other diseases. In addition, I have seen a few posts on ning with links to abstracts that contain information that is not verified. An abstract is simply an abbreviated version, or essentially an opinion, of a scientific project or thesis and, although peer reviewed, they are often written by undergraduate students and not necessarily an in-depth scientific study. Without the ability to review the full paper and understand the scientific methods used, the data, and how it was obtained, you cannot be sure of the integrity of the study. Here's my disclaimer; I am not an expert in Zika, but I have been working in the Dengue research field (a cousin of Zika) so I have some anecdotal exposure from my colleagues.

Bog (Bob?) Hunter posted a message on ning's home page that could almost be perceived as an admission of defeat. It's really poorly written and he misspelled his own name, but it appears that he is, perhaps, starting to see the light. To little, to late I'm afraid.

"Cloudless" on Ning
Jim and Judi replied to Dottie Atwater's topic in Idle Chatter / Personal Musings
Well I've been threatened a few times and received some not so nicey reprimand emails. But there does seem to be a lack of understanding of satire by a bunch of them over there. Hee hee -

Apologies Dottie, I corrected myself. Agreed, I'm not sure if Olga holds English as a second language or has a comprehension problem. Maybe both. -

Has anyone recently been required to place a deposit with Union Fenosa? After 6 years, they are now demanding a $62 deposit from us. Our monthly bills average around $15. We've always paid our bill and never been disconnected so we're not sure why we have to pay one now, but they are threatening to disconnect if we don't.
