  1. Don't believe anyone who says they were successful in converting their E-Cedula into a N-Cedula unless they show you the new cedula and their Panamanian passport. I know several people who are a little duplicitous in this regard.
  2. From the estate of Irene Haines. Silver plated Sheffield service for six in a nice wooden box. Missing one fork; otherwise complete with serving utensils. This is a $350 value. Will sell for $150 with all proceeds going to the estate. Email Penny at pjbarrett@aol.com
  3. From the estate of Irene Haines. This is a Windows 7 computer with a 500 gigabyte disk drive and 4 gigabytes of RAM memory. It has a 2.60 Gigahertz CPU and two DVD drives. There is also a mouse, an LG monitor and a Microsoft keyboard. The keyboard and the operating system are in English. We're asking $120 which will be paid into Irene's estate. Email Penny at PJBarrett@aol.com
  4. I just stopped by Marion's house. She is no longer living there; can't stand to go back to the scene of the horrendous attack on her. She is living in David. Maybe Trisha Daugherty can make arrangements for the British Consul to check in with Marion.
  5. It doesn't matter if you have all the correct passes to cross the bridge and to cross in front of the fairgrounds ---- don't do it after 4 PM. Especially on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday the entire street turns into a pedestrian walkway. Not only is it very time consuming getting through, your chances of side-swiping a pedestrian are huge.
  6. La Villa Coffee Shop is now open in the Hex Room of the BCP. Wonderful coffee drinks and even lunch. I plan on eating there today so will critique it after that. They are also allowing Irene's Books to be sold in the shop. It is the honor system with all books costing $1 and the proceeds going to the Handicap Foundation in Boquete.
  7. Take the Traveler's Portable Air Purifier wherever you go. It’s the portable, compact air purifier that works in your car, truck, boat or RV. It uses AHPCO cell technology plus a germicidal UV-C light to remove bacteria, VOCs, mold, smoke, pet dander and other contaminants from the air. An ion generator leaves the air smelling fresh and clean. Ideal for smokers or those who travel with pets. Brand new; in the box. Sells for $165 at the BCP market. Will sell for $100. Part of the Irene Haines estate. Email Penny at pjbarrett@aol.com
  8. Should not the AaC number been answered by Franc? It's worrisome that the call went to voicemail.
  9. Ruth Bieber swears she's not Justin's mother but we all think different. Anyway, Ruth is in town teaching drama classes to would be thespians at the BCP theater every Wednesday afternoon. I've talked to someone who has seen this movie and it's supposed to be great !!!!
  10. You take your ID (passport, cedula, or residency carnet) and your license plate number. They give you the laminated card. Because this is Panama, the card is only good for 2016 and the process has to be repeated next year. For the people asking about the Volcancito office my question is why do you need a permission to pass through the Feria? This card only allows you to drive past the Feria during the 10 days of the Fair. If you don't live in the area, you don't need the card. And, here's a bit of useless trivia -- the road in front of the feria is named Avenida Buenos Aires. Who knew????
  11. Does anybody know anything more about the Truckers Strike supposedly happening in David today and tomorrow. I believe they're going to block the Pan American highway. Apparently both Varela and the president of Taiwan are in town and the truckers are using this opportunity to express their displeasure over something. I plan on going to see the Star Wars movie on Friday but will take the overpass and then on to Theater Nacional so I'm hoping this route will be OK.
  12. According to a conversation I had with Joe Hart, they wanted to see if there were 50 interested folks before they went forward. They already have 40. They will schedule the class on a Sunday 30-60 days from now. They are trying to figure out their costs in order to set a price. Any profit they make will go to the local police.
  13. The office Mark is talking about is the Jaramillo Arriba corigadora. They open at 7:30 and close about 4 pm. I'm going up this morning with a couple of neighbors and we're registering about six cars. The office is located just one house uphill from the basketball court which is across the street from the Jaramillo Centro road. Of course, there is no identifying sign. This sticker is laminated and hopefully that means we don't have to repeat this exercise every year at this time. In the past the mayor's office has also issued the stickers. I think they are continuing to do so this year starting today (Thursday)
  14. Thank you. This is the 2nd recommendation I've had for Dr. Rodriguez so I guess he's the guy. Just made an appointment with him.
  15. I have Guelda's personal email but I'm sure she has a business email at MultiBank. Best to just stop in and see her
  16. Most folks don't know that MultiBank has a program that allows you to deposit a large check (up to $3000) into each of your accounts (savings and checking) every month for free and the check clears in 5 working days. You have to qualify for this program and I think the main factor is if you own your own home in Panama but I may be mistaken about this. Guelda Paniza is now the head service rep at MultiBank. Many of you know her from Banco General. She speaks perfect English and is very service oriented. Tell her I sent you.
  17. Does anybody have a recommendation for a specialist who deals in respiratory problems. If you have a recommendation, could you include contact info please. Thanks.
  18. Some of it is open and there are several vendors up and running. I went down the little side street looking for some fruit on a Sunday and found a lady in her brand new stall in the mercado.
  19. Ditto to that . . . THANK YOU BUD Y MARCELYN. There is a great deal of intelligent commentary on this site and so far I haven't seen any sniping. Slowly the thinking population is migrating to this site.
  20. I also pay my corporate annual fee (aka "tasa unica") myself at either Banco Nacional or Caja Ahorros. My corporation was formed by David attorney Adolfo Angulo who was one of the few English speaking attorneys around in 2003. He doesn't charge an annual fee to be the resident agent. Many other attorneys find it an easy way to make several hundred dollars a year for doing nothing. I'm not sure if you need an attorney as a resident agent. Perhaps if you have a good attorney for other business you can ask him/her if you could put them in as resident agent and what would be the fee.
  21. According to my (usually) reliable sources, the man's name is Richard Moore and he was a home security inspector for Alto al Crimen. He was shot in the shoulder and the leg and underwent surgery at Hospital Chiriqui. Rodny was not called so cannot write a detailed report for me. Perhaps Alto al Crimen will send something in to news.boquete@gmail.com
  22. Yes, the ability of BCP to pay the increased rental for the building and the never-ending maintenance costs is tied to a successful sub-lease of this space. Most people in the community don't know that BCP doesn't own the building and the rent is increasing substantially. Maintenance issues and costs are major. The plays do not pay a fraction of the bills.
