  1. I don't know about the stock but I would bet that Copa has one of the best customer satisfaction ratings.
  2. Folks considering a move to Boquete and those who are relatively new (less than two years?) should attend the Newcomer's informational meeting at BCP next Tuesday at 10:30. There will be a panel of expats discussing all aspects of life in Boquete including Susan Peterson's short talk on how Boquete has changed over the 40+ years she's lived here.
  3. Price Peterson is a hard act to follow.
  4. My house guests sampled the new Tex-Mex menu on Monday and proclaimed it "delicious" !!!
  5. Banco General is the best. Lots of locations and all of their service reps speak English. Not too many hidden fees.
  6. Fran says Dra Diaz's office is next door to La Reina in downtown Boquete. When did she move. For a long time her office was across the street from Mike's Global Grill.
  7. This amazing exhibit of local talent is one of the reasons that makes Boquete so unique. The photos were professional, varied, and beautifully displayed. Way to go Photografia !!!!!
  8. Dr. Gomez told me a month or so ago that Dr. Chen no longer owned the practice and the doctors are now employees of the practice owner who is trying to change the practice into something more modern (i.e., higher prices, shorter consultations).
  9. Rainelda is one of the foremost attorneys in Panama. She speaks very good English and keeps schedules and appointments like a Gringo. She has a common sense approach to many legal problems and has solves some very tough immigration problems for folks I know.
  10. I'd be willing to bet that there are hundreds and hundreds of people surviving in Boquete with extremely limited Spanish ("Yo quiero Taco Bell"). Of course, your life is enhanced by knowing some Spanish but it's not a survival thing.
  11. The shuttles (I think there are 3 of them) are great and about the cost for one person going. For two people you have to balance the costs. With the $30 shuttle ticket you get the $5 boat ticket (cheaper for pensionados) and no need to pay $5/day for parking. It also is much more relaxing and allows you to enjoy the scenery with a good professional driver at the wheel. The shuttle I'm most familiar with is the one leaving from Mamallena near the park. I've used it myself and at least 10 of my guests have taken it. In fact, I'm driving a current guest there in a few minutes to catch the 8:00 AM departure. Also, if you're going to be in Bocas for a short while, I strongly recommend taking one of the many boat tours. They last about 4-5 hours and you get a whole overview of the island chain and you might even see some dolphins frolicking in the bay.
  12. I read David Burnett's post shortly after he made it. I would have been willing to help him out and make the call but it was totally unclear to me who David was trying to reach. I don't think anywhere in his post he said he was trying to reach Rodny. He was obviously very distraught. Apparently someone saw it and figured out that it was Rodny he was trying to reach and made the call. In his apparent state of panic, it seems logical he wasn't calling the correct number.
  13. All I'm saying is they would be far more effective in protecting Boquete if they located themselves on the north side of the Caldera intersection.
  14. The ad isn't for a personal rental., It's for a business and they are allowed one ad per calendar month. No personal real estate ads are allowed.
  15. An apolstile just verifies that fact that the notary is a legitimate notary. If you get notarized by a Panamanian notary (either a cheap one at the Municipio or an expensive one in David), the country of Panama still has to verifiy that the notary is legitimate. It's just really easier to go to the U.S. embassy in Panama City.
  16. Once again this morning I was waved through the police stop at the Caldera road and once again it occurred to me how ineffective this effort is. I believe all the money being spent on having 2-3 policemen there most of the time is to protect Boquete from maleantes coming up from David to do home invasions and assaults against the Boquete residents (who are rich, don't cha know). The problem is the police chose to be on the side of the intersection where there is shade and not on the side of the intersection where they will do any good. Any maleante wanting to come into Boquete without being stopped needs only come in via the Caldera road. The same is true for any maleante wanting to leave Boquete with their loot and return to David. All they have to do is turn left onto the Caldera road before they get to the police stop. What is it that I'm not understanding here???
  17. Doesn't Phil McGuigan's charity, Amigos de Boquete, provide a hot lunch every day to the students at this school????
  18. I seem to remember that all packages mailed out through the local post office have to be wrapped in brown paper and no tape is allowed. I guess you have to glue the paper. Can I use string to hold the package together. Can anybody guess why the weird regulation against tape?????
  19. I swear to God I have to ask this every year. I poke around in the IRS web site and follow lots of links but I just can't find this damnable form that has to be filed electronically apart from your 1040 Tax Return. It almost makes me want to renounce my citizenship but as of now no other country will have me so that's a false threat. In the past Lee always gave me the link. This year I'll have to rely on the rest of you guys. They should rename this thing the FUBAR instead of the FBAR
  20. What a great post from Phyllis !!! I have absolutely no talent and have a standing Saturday night card date with the girls but I'm quite envious of the good time you guys enjoyed. Those of us who are passionate about the success of BCP truly hope it becomes the kind of Event Center it has always been supposed to be. Keep it going, guys.
  21. Apparently I wasn't suspended from NING earlier when I though I had been. What they had done was delete the little block ad about News.Boquete that Lee had always carried for free. I thought their message to me meant that I personally had been deleted. This time I got deleted for real because I wanted to post a discussion about signing up for the News.Boquete free service and they don't like that.
  22. As of February 15, the CableOnda office has moved again. A Panamanian friend says the move is temporary while they remodel the current office. However, my billing SNAFU can't wait until they're back in the office I know how to locate. Here's the address left on the door: Ave 28 este y calle Aristedes Romero a lado la Panaderia La Castellana Does anybody know where this is and can you give me directions on how to get there? Thanks much.
  23. You have been suspended from Boquete Panama Sorry, Penny Barrett, you can not access Boquete Panama as you have been suspended. If you think you've been suspended in error, you can contact the administrator. Message to the Administrator
  24. La Jungla is an animal rescue place on the Palmira Road. Turn onto the Palmira road at Plaza San Francisco in Alto Boquete. Just past the crossroads known as Palmira Centro is La Jungla on the left side of the street.
