Everyone has some sort of asymmetry in his or her body. The past creeps up; injuries and muscular/skeletal imbalances progress. Perhaps some muscles and/or joints are overworked and painful, whereas others are undeveloped and out of ones awareness. Enter Pilates to acquaint you with your weaknesses as well as your strengths. Pilates teaches You how to tune into and turn on your muscles to move with greater ease and perform whole body movement.  Pilates Shows the Way to Work On and Improve Whatever Shape You're In..
The Pilates System of Exercise is broad and diverse, makes anatomical sense, and is perfectly symmetrical. All movement is led from the core strengthening the abdomen and the muscles protecting the spine. Overall, the body and mind become better integrated producing a greater state of harmony and well-being. Pilates on the Ball! is Great Fun and a Terrific Total Body Work-out! Classes are always changing  and expanding to keep your mind continually learning and incorporating more of your  body.   Pilates at the Haven. The itinerary is:

A.)    January 13, 2019 (Sunday) – Leave Boquete 7:30AM. Travel by tour bus to Panama City. Enjoy mimosas and a continental type breakfast on the way. We will stop along the way for short breaks. Lunch at “Va y Ven” in Santiago (you pay for your own lunch). We arrive at Wyndham Albrook Mall Hotel around 4PM.  That evening dinner will be on your own.

B.)  January 14, 2019 (Monday)  – Breakfast at “Wyndham Albrook Mall Hotel” (included) before boarding the 8:30AM bus to go to Gamboa (a beautiful 30 to 40 minute ride through the rainforest).

Explanation of the amazing tour we will be taking today = Come experience why many tourists consider this trip one of the highlights of their visit to Panama.

                                                           Panama Canal Jungle Day Tour

Your day of adventure will take you to the waters of the world's most famous manmade lake. Lake Gatun is situated in the heart of the Isthmus of Panama. It was constructed between 1906- 1914 to make the Panama Canal possible.

From the lake's shore (at the public ramp in Gamboa) you will board our fast motor launches for a voyage of discovery. We will navigate above ancient routes that crossed the isthmus long before the lake`s creation.

Huge Ocean going ships can be seen transiting across this water bridge that links the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean.

We will glide past lush tropical forests to a scenic region of the lake and witness firsthand the splendor and excitement of the jungle. Exotic birds, monkeys, sloths, iguanas, and crocodiles are just a few of the animals that you can view in their native surroundings. The sights, sounds and scents that make up this tropical paradise will engulf you.

Our ultimate destination will be a big barge next to a private tropical island. A delicious native style lunch with refreshments will be served. Afterwards numerous activities are available at no additional costs.

Explore on your own while kayaking, swimming,  or fishing. Or if you prefer, just relax in the shade swinging in a hammock and sip a cool drink while taking in the beauty of the area.

Duration on the Gatun lake: 6.5 hours =Embarkation at the Gamboa public boat ramp at 9:30am.  We return to Gamboa at 4:00 pm.  Bus will be waiting for us to take us back to our hotel.  We should be back at our hotel around 5PM.

GENTLE HATHA YOGA
Monday, Wednesday & Friday
9:30 am -- 10:30 am
$6.00 / class
“Community Class” — held in the Amigos de Animales building in Alto Boquete*
A Hatha Yoga class that is gentle, slow and great for beginners or students who prefer a more relaxed style. As this class develops it is able to be custom-tailored to the group’s needs in the spirit of traditional yoga where asanas (poses) were ‘prescribed’ for various conditions (ie, back pain, tight shoulders, and a multitude of other aliments / afflictions.) … Hence, the more you attend practice — and provide feedback — the more supportive and deep the practice will become. This has been Yoga Boquete’s most popular class!
* Amigos de Animales is located in Alto Boquete, across the street from Super Centro Ivan. Look for the Amigos de Animales sign, and turn right and follow short dirt/gravel road to green building on the left. There is plenty of parking.
Join community yoga classes … and support a worthy cause!
A percentage of the class fee goes to support Amigos de Animales, a non-profit, volunteer organization that assists animals.

We were not able to participate in this event due to absence from the area, but we understand from friends who supported this event that it was a HUGE success. Here are some of Clare Taylor's photos:

    • Community Christmas Party Hosted by Amigos de Boquete Comunidad
      By Moderator_02,
Marcelyn and I attended this fabulous Christmas Party at La Posada Restaurant this afternoon. Besides the usual Christmas season festivities, one purpose for this party was to collect Christmas gifts for the local children. There was no entrance fee, but attendees were asked to bring wrapped Christmas gifts for distribution by the local churches. Our estimate is that about 50 people were in attendance, and all enjoyed the fantastic music of a seven member mariachi band. What a great performance on their part; they were very good at getting the attendees involved by singing and dancing with them. La Posada had extra waitstaff to take care of drink and food orders. The party was in a large room at the rear of La Posada -- could not have been a better venue for this kind of gathering.
The party was planned and executed by a recently formed group of expats under the name of Amigos de Boquete Comunidad (ABC). Joe Hart and his wife, Linda, along with numerous volunteers put together this festive gathering. Our hats off to Joe, Linda, and all of their elves.
Here are a few pictures from this event:

    • ARF Thanksgiving Meal
      By Bud,
Marcelyn and I were participants in ARF's Thanksgiving Day event at the Animales Building. There was a LOT of VERY GOOD food, great conversations, visits with friends, etc. We estimate there were about 70 guests and maybe 15 worker-bees taking care of setting up, tending to the guests, etc. The background music was nice, and not so loud as to intrude into the conversations. The pecan pie was simply outstanding. Kudos to that chef! But I also do not want to take away from any of the other food items. I sampled all the food choices, and there was nothing to apologize for on that front.
An unexpected plus for us was that we finally got to meet Beth Abrahams (it is kind of a long story, don't ask).

      Beth Abrahams
We also got to catch up with all of the latest travels and happenings of our friends who were at our table. Met a few new people, etc.
There simply was nothing that we could fault (not our goal anyway). This is the way things should be done, and ARF did it with all of their wonderful volunteers. If someone found fault with something yesterday, then I would chalk them off as being a token curmudgeon.  Thank you ARF! GREAT JOB!!!!

Thank you to all who helped make yesterday's Thanksgiving Day celebration such a huge success, and special thanks to N&N:

I will close with: we all have a lot to be thankful for.

    • One Night in India
      By JudyS,
I think $55 for one person is a lot of money to spend on a dinner in Boquete.  I've never spent that much for an Indian dinner anywhere.
