Zika

The U.S. always steps up to the plate. This article gives quick hope for prevention. And, hopefully a vaccine. http://www.newsherald.com/news/20160812/almost-900-innovators-submit-ideas-to-combat-zika

Win 10 Update

I committed to June 4th for the upgrade. Not a lot of difference with the interface. A few minor cosmetic changes. It does run faster. But, it defaults to window's new browser. I changed that back to my google chrome browser as my default browser. If enough people tells me microsoft browser has out done Google then I'll switch to windows browser. Right now I'm happy with google. Now we wait for the bugs to show up.  This is normal with windows upgrades and any other platform.

Water Restored

The water to my condo was restored sometime during the night. These guys did the best they could no matter how skilled they are at their jobs or profession. And, at least a poIitcian showed up. I would never make fun of them when commenting on a water outage after all I live in "THEIR" country. Sadly these comments were posted on a thread I started about a water outage. Having said this, I will no longer allow these kind of remarks on MY blog or MY public post. These types of defamations were al

Water Buffalo?

I had seen these animals on my way to Volcan before taking the short cut to Volcan (Potreros road). This trip for Mexican food, I told the girl friend if I see them I'm stopping for pics. And, there they were in the same place last time I seen them. They are in the huge orange grove. I'm not sure if they are pure bred or crossed with cows. But, you can see the water buffalo in them for sure.

Water Buffalo

We traveled to Volcan for Mexican food again yesterday and had another real treat. We had seen two or three of the water buffalo in the orange groves on the short cut to Volcan before. But today we watched a heard of about 200 grazing and cleaning the underbrush from the orange trees. Nice drive, nice scenery and good food. Beats sitting  around the house comtemplating life.

Volcan Flower Festival

Last year was great. They may have promoted this year beyond imagination. I'm thinking there was approx two thousand cars going in circles around town. Today was a nightmare. It appeared just as many were leaving as were arriving because of no parking. They did not plan on this many visitors/cars I'm sure of it. So, no parking and a lot of people left. I never got out of my car.  Maybe they'll figure out more parking next year. A few photos from last year; The table without the ho

Vietnam

Vietnam 45 years and 20 days ago I came home. Would I do it again? NO WHY? This war had nothing to do with our national interest or in defense of our nation. Unjustified wars kill innocent soldiers and civilians. Are there justified wars? Yes. 45 years and 20 days ago I came home to the USA. Too many sleepless nights with nightmares in the past 45 years. Have a nice memorial day everyone.

The GOP Clown Show

I normally don't do politics but this is insane. I'm not looking for a debate so I have locked comments. The Clown Show (GOP Debate) was the same again. The GOP is seriously destroying itself. I have crossed over to vote before but that was when gentlemen and true politicians worked together. I've never seen this madness. The finger needs to be pointed toward themselves (GOP) and the party in general.

Terrorist/France

It appears Europe and the Middle East have had more attacks than the USA since 9-11 and the Invasion of Iraq. Hopefully the security in the USA stays on track. Many attempts in the USA have been foiled since 9-11. I don't have any family in France but this is tragic and our prayers are with those affected.

Stinging SilkMouth Caterpillar

Very beautiful caterpillar. Very dangerous and bad sting. I found it on a putting green while golfing. We relocated it off of the putting green and hope it survives. I took the picture yesterday and had enough time today to research it and found the name and info.

Spain, France, Andorra

Great vacation. The best part was visiting three countries in one day. The last snow I was in was 1978. Baga, Northern Spain is a medieval time pueblo, Ax-Les-Thermes (Ax-les-Thermes is a commune in the Ariège department in the Occitanie region of south-western France. The inhabitants of the commune are known as Axéens or Axéennes), Andorra, (Andorra is a tiny, independent principality situated between France and Spain in the Pyrenees mountains. It’s known for its ski resorts and a tax-haven sta

Soccer

We went to a soccer match last night in David and watched local players. It is located behind La Brasas restaurant on the road to the airport on your left just past the prison.(big coca cola sign there). This is one of those mini soccer fields. There is seating and parking. Also, you can watch while eating in the restaurant. We enjoyed wings and patacones con camarone while watching the game. The wings were great and so were the patacones with shrimp in the center. These youngster really play ha

Sitio Barriles Archaeological Dig (Volcan)

We visited Sitio Barriles last Sunday. I have been reading about this site for a couple of years. This is a small site with probably the oldest known people occupying Central America before Baru's Eruption----Possibly Chinese and Africans (Pre-Colombia). The Link below gives a lot of details of the site. The tour guide doesn't go into details about the dates of the site. She did general explanations and dates. We had the Spanish tour guide and enjoyed the tour. There is an English guide but we d

Security England/Scotland 1998

We did a house exchange in Bolton, England in 1998. Attached are a few pics.  But, my main purpose of this post was the Security at the Manchester airport at the time. The security then was as tough as the US is now---well almost. They video recorded questions and answers of every passenger before boarding the plane. Everyone walked up to a single podium and gave many answers to many questions. I assume they profiled the interviews while we were in flight to the US. They carefully searched

Safety/Security

Inspite of all that has transpired lately in Chiriqui I feel safe. And, the country is secure enough for me concerning terrorism. I could conjure up some conspiracies if I bite the hook baited by the terrorist: FEAR is the bait. Sometimes a threat is real. We need to know the threat and who is making the threat.

Safety And Security Chiriqui

It appears the security meeting was well attended yesterday. Hopefully the officials can get more support for police, vehicles and investigators. Also, maybe the representative can at least start a Bill in Panama City for change in the juvenile laws.

Restaurante In David

Boca Chica Restaurante in David. It is mostly seafood and has a steak menu. In David, I rate it 8 out of ten. Seafood was fresh, A/C dining room (small) or other seating out front. Good service and not long waits. We had the Mariscada De La Casa (seafood platter). More than enough for two. Everything is under $15. The fried Calamara appetizer was good also.

Quake

6:39 am. This one rattled the pots and pans in the cabinet. Actually very close the way the crow flys, 47km or 29mi. Just on the other side of Volcan Baru. The map shows it very close to Rio Sereno. Some say 4.8 and some 5.0. What's the difference? Hint------2. http://www.volcanodiscovery.com/earthquakes/quake-info/1229081/M5.0-Sun-31-Jan-Panama-Costa-Rica-Border-Region.html (click on the map in this site and zoom in on the center. very good on location) http://www.timeanddate.com/worl

Puerto Armuelles/Chiquita Banana

The old pier/dock. Very interesting to walk the old structure. The rail road track remains on part of the pier. The off loading facility still remains at the end of the dock. Nice sunday adventure.
