We have a seat and it's kinda neat,
it sits in the yard with a view.
We sit out there in the cool mountain air
and think of our times spent with Dru.
There's such a breeze, and pollen...we sneeze
and a moment of sadness wafts by.
We miss you Dru. We think of you,
and those thoughts cause us to cry.
But in our seat that's oh no neat, we can see such a beautiful view.
The sky up high, and birds flyin' by, and happiness in thoughts of you.
A hummingbird drinks from a flower nearby; a hawk squawks chased by a bird.
The sounds we hear make us feel you're near. The sweetest sounds we've heard.
So cheers to you Dru ! YOU are the view:
the flowers, the wind and the sky.
We sit in this seat...oh so neat;
You're near...so why should we cry ?
We love and miss you Dru!

How was our day yesterday??
1. 8.45am Chris McColeman and Pauline Verkley came to walk the dogs, Chiki and Junior.
2. 9.30am Our friend Maureen from Angeles con Colita, came to pick up the cat traps that she borrowed from our friend Zoey Quimby.
3. 10.00am We received a call from our friend Laura Kasparian who was asking for help for a stray dog in the town. We went to get the dog and we notice that dog was very sick. We took the dog to Dr Chely who confirmed that the dog had distemper, so we had to take the sad decision to put sleep the dog?. Is the first time that we do that.
Meanwhile Javier was the whole time with the dogs at the DogCamp.
4. 4:00pm we received the visit of our friend Stan, who came to donate two bags of puppy food and one bag of cat food.

Last week we were invited to a friend’s house to enjoy the view from their balcony and watch the hummingbirds. What a treat to see clouds racing across the sky and thinking this is the top of the world.
Started wondering about these tiny birds with a lifespan of 3 to 5 years, measure about 3 inches in length, and have a heartbeat of 200 times a minute. I see them around our house getting nectar from colorful flowers using their long narrow bills and tongue. Their tongues are groved like the shape of a “W” with tiny hairs that help lap up nectar—-similar to a cat’s tongue.
There are more than 300 species of hummingbirds and are found only in the Western Hemisphere from Alaska to Chile. Most live in the tropics. And yes, they migrate alone, not in a flock. Have no sense of smell, but can hear better than humans.
Now that name hummingbird comes from flapping their wings so fast (720 to 5400 times per minute when hovering) that they make a humming noise. The average flying speed is 30 miles an hour but they can travel as fast as 60 miles an hour. They almost never stop moving. Legs are so small and weak they typically can’t walk at all and use their feet for perching.
Hummers are the only birds that can fly up, down, sideways, backwards and forward like a helicopter. They can even fly upside down.
And Now I Know.....a bit more about the birds of Chiriqui.
Below are two stock photos of hummingbirds. We find them difficult to photograph.
Dra. Chely is amazing.
This was the day for Anouk’s check-up which included worming pills and rabies shot. Dra. Chely inspected Anouk’s ears and did a thorough exam of our dog’s teeth and mouth condition. All good news now, but Dra. Chely pointed to enamel lost because of bad diet fed by Anouk’s earlier owners. (Remember Anouk is a rescue dog.)
Fur condition outstanding — shines. Dra. Chely asked what dog food we are feeding Anouk and gave immediate approval of our selection. Should mention she said “no treats” because Anouk is overweight and cautioned this is bad for her heart. Longer walks needed!
Except for a weight problem (my fault because I am the “food lady”), Anouk’s heart, lungs, feet, etc., are in excellent condition.
Dra. Chely kissed our dog, gave her a hug and said to me “Anouk has a good home now”.
Everyone happy and home we go.
VERY NICE STADIUM FOR PANAMA. GREAT BALL GAME. THE STADIUM WAS FULL---APPROX 8,000 IN THE STANDS. THE STADIUM HAS A GREAT BACKUP POWER PLANT. THE LIGHTS NEVER FLICKERED DURING POWER OUTAGE TRANSISTION. THE SOUND SYSTEM HAD TO BE RESET DURING THE CONVOCATION AND BEFORE VARELLA MADE HIS TALK (15 MINUTE OUTAGE OF THE SOUND SYSTEM.) WE WENT BACK THE SUNDAY FOLLOWING THE OPENING NIGHT AND THE STADIUM WAS FULL AGAIN. THE PARKING GARAGE MUST NOT BE COMPLETED YET. IT IS NOT BEING USED AT THIS TIME.

Not long ago an acquaintance (maybe I should call him a “real character”) came to visit us. He needed a haircut...did he ever! But he claimed he didn’t have time or the opportunity for this. Too many other activities like Jazz Festival, Tree Trek, food to try, practice his Spanish, etc.
Then one day after his spending the day touring around the Boquete area, I noticed his hair was neatly trimmed. Where? was my question. Bert explained he had asked friendly Panamanians standing near Romero’s. They told about a favorite shop close to the Melo store and across the street from Dr. Gómez. Of course Bert had to try this place. Said it was the kind of business he liked to explore and make new friends. Called it educational and the right price.
Later I discovered this is Lasso Barber Shop. Mr. Lasso is a gentle and very polite man. I think he has been part of the Boquete culture forever.
Now Bert is continuing his world travel adventures in other places, making friends, and learning. He probably could need another haircut. Maybe tomorrow or perhaps next week or?
What a great guy! That comment applies to both Bert and Sr Lasso. They are both winners.
Gurrr........another day with electricity outage. Again, home laundry is not happening. So I discovered a nice full service laundry guy located behind Boquete police station. This place does a fast turn around of wash/dry and fold at a reasonable price. He only does wash and dry — no ironing, dry cleaning, etc.
Happy clean day at our house.?

I have just completed planning and purchasing airline tickets for a month long visit to multiple cities in the US. Using the Internet to do so is a must and can be an exhausting process. If you are looking for the best deals with cheapest prices, things have changed in recent years. It used to be a quick visit to (Oribiz.com, Expedia.com, or Travelocity.com ) would be a great place to compare fares and find a good deal. Then, over time I noticed that sometimes going direct to the actual airline website gave a better deal or other flights that were not advertised. That made the process of getting the best deal a lot of work.
There have been many other websites that advertise "cheap tickets". Visiting most of those is even more time consuming and rarely did I find better deals.
That all changed when I have discovered two websites that gave significantly different and better information when planning a trip with cheaper airfares.
The first one is called Sky Scanner. https://www.skyscanner.com/tips-and-inspiration/best-time-to-book-usa
Not only do they give great pricing deals, they have a tool that shows how many weeks in advance to book plus many tools to find the very best deal. I used it extensively and was impressed with the volume and detail information available. We planned many one-way hops and the prices varied greatly. It is now my "go-to" website for getting airfare information, tho I often still book with the actual airline.
The second one is called Skip Lagged https://skiplagged.com/
This site has some useful information but is more aimed at a traveler that does not have and checked luggage. Often times airlines will have flights that are multi-stop and are cheaper than direct flights to one of the layover points. I never understood why flying further was less expensive - can't we just pay by the air mile?
For example, say you wanted to fly from Atlanta to Denver. The airfare for that direct flight might be more expensive than a flight that goes from Atlanta to Portland, with a layover in Denver. So you could purchase the longer flight to Portland but you would not board the plane for the second leg from Denver to Portland, thereby getting to Denver on a cheaper airfare. This would not work if you had checked luggage since your luggage would go all the way to Portland. On the other hand it provides a useful option for some people. They also give a very interesting graph of airfare prices between now and when you plan to go, helping you see when the cheapest times are to fly.
So, if you are planning a flight, I would suggest checking out these two sites. Then book direct with the airline or take the information to your favorite travel agent. I have easily saved almost $1,000 over our extensive trip. I only wish I had learned of these tools earlier.
Some people say that Boquete is the land of rainbows.
I started to wonder: Where do rainbows come from? Why different colors in a rainbow?
Mr. Google tells me the sun makes rainbows when white sunlight passes through raindrops. These raindrops are little prisms that bend different colors in the white light and droplets will separate into colors.
And now I know that violet will be the color on the bottom of a rainbow and red color on top. Have to go “rainbow hunting” to check those colors!
Thank you so much to the New DogCamp Team, Joseph Culleton, Leslie Peever, Claudia Maks and Steve, Debe Emerson and Rod, Sandy Kayser, Ruby McKenzie, Todd Crow, Thanks to Nairn Cutten and Nancy Halbert Cattering for the delicious meal that they cooked and donated for the DogCamp.
Yesterday we made 7 pre adoptions and we received 455.00 dollars. What wonderful day!
Since the next week, we are going to visit the new forever homes with the dogs!
Remember we have more dogs that are waiting for their forever homes! Come to visit them at DogCamp!
If you want to make a donation, dog food, vitamins, dog beds, etc. we will be at BCP Tuesday Market, come and talk to us and know more about our mission at the Boquete Community. We are the only group that have a shelter and can help to rescue animals, contact to the corregidora and the police if you can not speak spanish.
