The National Civil Protection System  (Sinaproc) and the Joint Task Force (FTC) are on standby in tourist areas in Bocas del Toro and the Sixaola River that has flooded.

Some of the places that being monitored are Isla Bastimentos, Playa Bluff and Boca del Drago, where there have been falls of branches. Although the road has been cleared, the road remains in a poor state.

In addition, vigilance is maintained on the bridge over the Sixaola River says a Sinaproc Twitter message which recommends not to enter the rivers in the next 24 hours. The FTC had to draw attention to some children who ignored the warnings and entered the river in the border sector of Guabito.

25 rescued from floods, alert continues

Staff of the National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC) remain on high alert in Bocas Del Toro after the rescue of 25 children and adults, in the community of La Mesa where the Sixaola River overflowed its banks.

Sebastián Castillo, the director of SINAPROC  in the province. said that the situation was reported on the night of Saturday, July 14. An earlier weather alert was issued for tourist areas in the province and remains in force as rains continue to fall. SINAPROC is monitoring all streams and rivers.

The 25 people spent the night in the Mariano Thomas education center.

Two people, including an 11-year-old boy died when a landslide crushed a home in Bajo Grande, Cerro Punta, in the province of Chiriquí on Saturday night, July 14. Members of the National Civil Protection System,(SINAPROC) searched through the night before finding the body in the rubble.

The heavy rains that caused the death of a minor and an adult in Cerro Punta, and the Green Alert issued by the Emergency Operations Center of the Civil Protection Service (SINAPROC)  are worrying the community in the Tierras Altas sector. They fear the overflow of rivers and streams, reports El Siglo.

According to SINAPROC, bad weather also caused the collapse of 26 trees in the districts of David, Alanje, and Divalá.

SINAPROC Director Francisco Santamaría said that the bad weather left 3 homes affected by landslides, 19 people affected and the three tourists who were trapped on the top of Volcán Barú had to be rescued.
