Moderators Moderator_02 Posted May 2, 2018 Moderators Share Posted May 2, 2018 Quote 500 residence permits cut – more to follow Posted on May 1, 2018 in Panama Post Views: 527 Panama migration authorities have canceled more than 500 temporary residence permits for foreigners after detecting fraudulent documentation. The discoveries were made after revelations of massive fraud by companies manipulating the online registration system linked to Social Security System (CSS) payments, costing the State millions of dollars. Among the false data detected were “the amount of fees in the Social Security card, non-matching details of salaries and workers appearing on company payroll when there is no employment relationship, and certifications signed by Social Insurance officials lacking authenticity” On Labor Day, Tuesday, May 1 the National Immigration Service, said that the cancellation issued through an edict from the institution is unappealable and is supported by reports from the Social Security Fund. “The names and data of those who had their permits canceled are detailed on our website, specifically, at the bottom of www.migracion.gob.pa, in banners highlighted as Notification Edicts,” said the authority. It warned that it will make “more cancellations” of temporary residence permits in Panama, “as soon as the Social Security Fund provides lists” that specify the alleged irregularities. http://www.newsroompanama.com/news/panama/500-residence-permits-cut-more-to-follow
Bonnie
Can someone explain to me what this means? I assume the writer (or translator) means "residency" rather than "residence," but beyond that I'm lost.
Marcelyn
I think this means that Panama authorities have identified at least 500 cases where people have falsified data (Social Security, job and salary information, etc.) in order to obtain their temporary residence or residency in this country. Bonnie
But are we talking about expats who have falsified U.S. social security data? Or immigrants who have falsified Panamanian s.s. data? If the latter, I'm wondering how they are working with a temporary visa.
Keith Woolford
Fake Paz y Salvo certificates from Caja de Seguro Social, apparently. Looking at the list of those affected, it’s mostly Venezuelan folks. Edited May 3, 2018 by Keith Woolford

Moderators Moderator_02 Posted June 22, 2018 Author Moderators Share Posted June 22, 2018 Quote Panama will conduct new procedures for migrants with canceled visas Fri, 06/22/2018 - 17:00 The National Immigration Service will carry out the procedure "from scratch" to those foreigners who were notified about the cancellation of their provisional residence permits after detecting that fraudulent documentation was provided in their application, an official source told EFE. Those who can carry out the procedure are those included in a list that was published through the Official Gazette, edict 05-2018 and 07-2018, in which the first edict canceled 470 foreigners’ visas and the second edict, 250, said a representative of the entity. This occurs, after last May, the authorities detected false data in the applications such as the amount of fees in the Social Security card, enrollment in payroll with companies where there is no employment relationship, detailed salaries that do not match those of the individual account, among others. Panama has hardened immigration controls since last year after seeing the flow of thousands of undocumented Latin Americans and beyond the continent, the vast majority seeking to continue their travel to the United States. In 2017, a total of 5,549 foreigners left Panama on the orders of the National Immigration Service, since they remained in the country irregularly or worked without the corresponding visa, said the authority last January. http://www.panamatoday.com/panama/panama-will-conduct-new-procedures-migrants-canceled-visas-7158
