Energy Projects in Panama

Environmental impact studies have been submitted for the construction of a park for the generation of wind energy and another one for solar energy, both of 20MW of power.

Detail of the projects: 

Energía Verde, S.A. submitted an EIA to build in the district of Gualaca, province of Chiriqui, a wind farm that will have 11 wind turbines, each with a nominal power of 1.8MW. According to the study, the project called "Parque Eólico Chimenea" will involve an investment of approximately $45 million.

Progreso Solar 20MW, S.A. submitted an EIA to build, in the province of Chiriqui, a photovoltaic power plant, consisting of 66,596 crystalline modules 300-72P. The project will occupy an approximate area of 34 hectares and according to the document the investment amount is around $30 million

Central America: $1.6 billion in Energy Projects

Last year, 87 environmental impact studies were submitted in the countries in the region, for the construction of power generation plants and works on electricity networks.

Panama is the country in the region where the largest investment is concentrated, with an approximate $1.29 billion in energy projects, corresponding to 32 environmental impact studies submitted to the Ministry of the Environment between January and December 2017.

It is followed by Costa Rica, where 13 EIAs were submitted, which together total an approximate investment of $198 millionIn Guatemala, 20 projects were submitted, making a total estimated investment of $77 million.

In El Salvador, 22 studies were submitted for work on different types of energy projects that have total an investment of approximately $69 million.

In the first three months of 2019, 14 environmental impact studies were presented in the countries of the region to perform work on electricity grids and develop power generation plants.

The interactive platform "Construction in Central America", compiled by the Trade Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData, includes an up to date list of public and private construction projects for which environmental impact studies (EIA) were submitted to the respective institutions of each country.

Panama is the country in the region with the highest investment, with approximately $397 million in energy projects, corresponding to six environmental impact studies submitted to the Ministry of Environment between January and March 2019.

It is followed by El Salvador, where six EIAs were also submitted, which together add up to an investment of approximately $10 million. The most important project according to the amount invested is the one that corresponds to the development of the Independence Solar Park.

For the quarter concerned in Guatemala, a study was presented for the works in the expansion of an electric substation and its lines, whose investment is approximately $3 million.

CentralAmericaData has information on the construction projects to be developed in Central America, with details such as estimated investment, times and phases of the project, supplies and equipment that will be required during and after construction, water treatment, and parking structure, among other things.
