Keith Woolford
Aupsa to Reinforce Surveillance of Imported Turkeys and Hams in December seeks to ensure that they comply with health and quality requirements During the month of December surveillance controls will be strengthened for the entry of turkeys and hams, says the Panamanian Food Safety Authority (Aupsa). According to the entity, it's to ensure that they comply with health and quality requirements. "We are very vigilant that imports fulfill all the requirements, specifically that these meat products are going to be admitted are in optimal conditions," said general manager, Yuri Huerta Vasquez. On the issue of the importation of picnic hams and turkeys, Huerta assured that this year there has been a significant reduction from the past two years. He considers that the reduction in the import of those products may be due to the fact that "Panama is promoting national food consumption and there is change in the eating habits". The total import of picnic hams until the 22 of November of 2017 is of 898.927 kilograms, and the 1,122,666 kilograms of frozen turkey. Turkeys and hams that enter the country come from the United States, Canada and Peru. laestrella.com.pa/economia/aupsa-dice-refuerza-vigilancia-ingreso-pavos-jamones-diciembre/24035476 Edited November 26, 2017 by Keith Woolford
