Wine Imports into Panama Up 4%

In 2016, $21 million worth of wine was imported, 4% more than in the previous year, and 50% of it came from Chile and Spain.

Changes in imports  
Between 2015 and 2016 the import value of wine coming into Panama increased from $20 million in 2015 to $21 million in 2016. 

Between 2015 and 2016 the value imported from Spain went up by 14%, going from $4 million to $5 million, and from Argentina it grew by 18%, increasing from $0.7 million to $1 million.

Origin of imports 
In 2016, 26% of the value imported from Panama came from Chile, 24% from Spain, 13% from the USA. and 12% from France.

Spain is the home market for imports that has grown the most in the last 5 years. In 2012 it represented 5% of the total import value, and last year the figure reached 24%.

Variation of imports  
Between the first quarter of 2017 and the same period in 2018 the import value of wines in Panama increased from $5 million to $5.2 million. 

For the periods in question, the value imported from Spain grew by 39%, going from $1.1 million to $1.5 million, and from Chile it grew by 13%, increasing from one million dollars to $1.1 million.

Origin of imports 
From January to March 2018, 28% of the value imported from Panama came from Spain, 22% from Chile, 13% from the USA, and 11% from Italy. 

For the quarter in question of the last seven years, Spain is the market of origin of imports that has grown the most. In 2012 it represented 5% of the total import value, and this year the figure reached 23%.
