Keith Woolford
9:28 p.m. Fairly long, side to side lateral movement. I’ll watch for the report. Edited November 13, 2017 by Keith Woolford
Chris McCall
First report in 6.8 in costa rica https://www.emsc-csem.org/Earthquake/seismologist.php its up on usgs site now 6.8. It is a really long way from here this earthquake has to have caused a lot of damage in Costa Rica including San Jose, I hope I am wrong. Also wonder if we have a tsunami problem as it happens on the cost just south of San Jose. JRWsaxman
Same side to side lateral movement in Los Molinos. 6.8 earthquake 12 miles SSE of Jaco CR
Chris McCall
Now down graded to a 6.5. Jaco is over 170 miles from here. I am in caldera, that was a really lot of movement for an earthquake that was so far away. It does not make sense.
Keith Woolford
Glad I sold the beach property that I owned for many years in that immediate vicinity. I’ve sent an email to my friends there to check on their condition. Edited November 13, 2017 by Keith Woolford
Penny
I'm playing "watchie-man" at Chiriqui Storage in Dolega and sleeping in our 5th wheel RV on the property. Reminded me of the hillbilly saying "Don't come a-knockin' when the trailer be a-rockin'".

That's why we felt it. M 6.5 - 16km SE of Jaco, Costa Rica Time 2017-11-13 02:28:24 (UTC) Location 9.526°N 84.505°W Depth 19.8 km There appears to be no tsunami threat. http://www.tsunami.gov/ This site says the depth was 6 miles, very shallow. Moderators Moderator_02 Posted November 14, 2017 Moderators Share Posted November 14, 2017 Quote 6.5 earthquake felt in Chiriqui, Bocas Posted on November 13, 2017 in Panama Post Views: 254 CHIRIQUI and Bocas del Toro were shaken by a 6.5magnitude earthquake during the night of November 12-13 say reports from the National Seismological Network (RSN) and the Panama Fire Department. Panawanna
This may have been posted prior, but I didn't see it. Forgive if I've duplicated. Volcan Baru is classified as an ACTIVE volcano...or at the very least, dormant and not extinct. The fact that hot springs exist in Caldera indicates that magma is close to the surface and ongoing activity is... well, ongoing. So earthquakes should not be a surprise to anyone in that region. Wikipedia has an interesting article about Baru and clicking through to other sites yields interesting, if not concerning, USGS study results. Having lived in CA for so many years, earthquakes have become a part of our background noise unless damage from the tremors is more than minimal. No volcanos in site. Living on the side of a volcano I'm certain will change our dismissal of tremors as 'background noise'. Baru's last eruption? In the 1500's according to Wiki. But the USGS suggests residents around the volcano should be prepared for the worst. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volcán_Barú https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/2007/1401/of2007-1401en_text.pdf Edited December 15, 2017 by Panawanna correction and addition
