Keith Woolford
Today marks the 40th Anniversary of the signing of the Torrijos-Carter agreement which established that the Canal would be turned over to the Panamanian people on December 31, 1999. You've come a long way since then, Panama.
TwoSailors
Wow...40 years ago. Seems like yesterday when folks opposing it in the US said the US owned it lock, stock, and barrel, but never made a profit. Panama has been pouring billions of dollars into its state treasury every year since. Wonder what the US did with all the money they reportedly said they were not making? Maybe supporting all the U.S. military and their families who lived in the canal zone, plus the support services in the canal zone for those families. That must have been very expensive.
