According to Unpac, the company establishes that the pilots day begins when the aircraft door is closed, and does not take into account the process of reviewing the instruments and knowing the weather conditions during the flight.

Like a surgeon, his day doesn't start till after he cuts you open!

Crazy thinking!

Dawn agreement averts Copa pilots strike

copa-620x264.jpg

A MARATHON 20-hour meeting between the commercial pilots’ union  (Unpac)  and Copa Airlines ended shortly  before dawn on Thursday, June 15, averting a strike by  1000, pilots.

An agreement was reached to sign a collective agreement governing relations between both parties until 2021.

The move ended nine months of negotiation and the strike call, scheduled for later in the day.

If no agreement had been reached, the Ministry of Labor had the power to declare arbitration, which would have extended negotiations for more than three months.

Copa Airlines connects daily to more than 70 destinations in 30 countries and each month moves more than 1.5 million travelers through its hub at Tocumen International Airport

The last proposal that the airline presented to the pilots – who claimed that their wages were some of the lowest in the region – included a wage increase of more than 17%, giving them an hourly rate above $75 reports La Prensa.

Copa pilots flying high with new agreement

copa-1-620x264.jpg

AFTER nine ,months of negotiation and a threatened strike, Copa Airlines pilots have achieved a large proportion of their demands in a collective agrement with the company lasting until 2021.

While the main points of the agreement have been signed off, some of the details are still being finalized with the Ministry of Labor.

The 1000 pilots who had complained of being the lowest paid in the region will get a pay and benefits raise of 23% and will in future be paid overtime.

The accord was reached at dawn on Thursday, hours before a strike was set to start.

Jaime Cohen, representative of the union representing the pilots, said that the agreement will also cover payments for flights that pilots have to make at night.

In a brief statement, Copa Airlines reported that the agreement “provides fair compensation” to its pilots, while allowing it to continue working focused on maintaining itself as a solid and stable company for all employees.

Among other points that will be included in the collective agreement is the creation of a compensation system for seniority, as well as a private retirement plan.

Good for them!

Just flew RT with them. I love Copa. Just wish the pilots were more communicative with the passengers. Seems it is taking longer for take offs and to get to the gate. For a totally new experience last nights flight, we sat on the tarmac for 10 minutes after landing and then rode around the airport for 15 minutes till we got to our gate. Felt like we were being driven to David or the pilot could not find the gate!   We did arrive early though. :D

Very common occurrence for a very early arrival.  The gate times are scheduled like everything at an airport, get there 10 minutes early and wait for the other flight to push back. Airports are like square dances, it is all in the timing.  I love flying; I hate airports.
