They are about 18 inches in length and are uncommon in western Panama. I observed this one swimming like a duck and bobbing underwater from time to time. Foto por Kermit Nourse. The Violet Sabrewing / El Alasable Violáceo Kermit Nourse’s Birds of Panama Today’s hummingbird from Panama is the Violet Sabrewing. This bird can be found at Cerro Punta, a small agricultural town located at 6500 feet close to the border of Costa Rica. For me its one of the nicest places on the planet with the one of the greatest shows on earth –- the hummingbirds which whiz past your ear or perch in front of you just long enough so as not to be photographed. I’ve seen at least seven species there. El colibrí de hoy de Panamá es Alasable Violáceo. Esta ave puede ser encontrada en Cerro Punta, una pequeña ciudad agrícola localizada en 6500 pies cerca de la frontera de Costa Rica. Para mí su de los sitios más agradables en el planeta con el que de los mayores espectáculos en la tierra –-los colibríes que zumban por delante de su oído o percha delante de usted sólo el bastante mucho tiempo para no ser fotografiados. This Stilt is about 14 inches tall, breeds in Panama, and usually found in mudflats. El pájaro de hoy de Panamá es la Cigüeñuela Cuellinegra, un ave con patas muy largas. It is probably a snowy egret. This one crosses a texture of tracks from the many birds before him. In the distance I could see thousands of waterfowl gathered at the shoreline. There are many seedeaters from Panama but this one is my favorite. I have several photos of the seedeaters taken in the Las Lajas area of Chiriqui, eating grass seeds. Hoy la ave de Panamá es el Espiguero Pechirrrojizo. Hay muchos espigueros desde Panamá, pero esta es mi favorita. The results are positive because they keep the country at the global and regional level despite the fact that this time the date of the count was on the eve of the recent general elections, says Guido Berguido, director of Panama Adopt the Forest Association, one of the driving local forces of the Big Global Day. In 2018, Panama also ranked among the top 10 countries in the world and ranked first in the region, when 750 species were counted. Some 1,000 volunteers from 50 public institutions, and private, non-governmental, community and university, were distributed throughout the country to feed, during the 24 hours of t the Big Global Day to list the birds that can be seen in Panama and opening a window of opportunity for ecotourism. Panama has a greater diversity of species than the EU, says Berguido. "We have an attraction that we are not exploiting to attract more eco-tourists." Our country was declared as one of the 10 best places in the world for the observation and study of birds. Without having to build megaprojects or large structures, ecological tourism offers a valuable option for the creation of jobs and the promotion of our country brand. Likewise, whale watching, underwater diving, hiking, and other complementary activities are key to sustainable development. In Panama, these offers have been disregarded in favor of skyscrapers, malls, and casinos. More people can eat and live well taking care of our nature and facilitating the responsible tourism of our protected areas, than other activities that are temporary. On the eve of a new government, It is pertinent to look with good eyes on ecotourism and the protection of our natural resources.
