Keith Woolford
Municipal Slaughterhouse is Moving to Caldera The mayor of the district of Boquete, Emigdio Vasquez, confirmed Monday that the municipal slaughterhouse located in Alto Boquete will be relocated to the corregimiento of Caldera, because it gives a negative image. The first thing tourists see when entering the town are the birds of prey (vultures), which is not correct. He stated the decision has been taken along with organized groups of the livestock sector in the district of Boquete and the work which costs exceed the $800,000 dollars, will be financed through the National Bank of Panama. He noted that the current slaughterhouse has been maintained as a sustainable activity that generates the municipality of Boquete some $700 balboas per month, because its structure is small and the slaughter of cattle is limited. However, he ensures that with the new structure it may be possible to broaden the service and farmers will not have to travel to the district of David for the slaughter of animals.
