Water treatment plants impacted by heavy rains

The strong rains that have fallen in the province of Chiriqui have affected seven water purification plants in different regions, leaving more than 50,000 users with reduced or no service.

Youbert De Puy, the regional director of the water and sewer agency Idaan, said that the rains affected plants in Baru, Diyala, Bugaba, Santa Marta, David, Dolega and Tole.

The official said that the rainfall recorded in the afternoon and evening hours harmed production due to high turbidity in various tributaries.

He added that crews are working to resolve the issues.

Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know if there are families who have been flooded out and are in need of disaster relief?  The Boquete Knitters and Quilters have a stock of baby blankets and quilts, as well as some infant/toddler sweaters that we will gladly donate to relief efforts.  Please let us know...
