Panama, Costa Rica plan Joint Security Meeting for Thursday in Boquete

Panama and Costa Rica will hold a joint security council meeting Thursday in Boquete, Chiriqui, to address the immigration crisis affecting the region.

This meeting was scheduled Sept. 19 during the 71st General Assembly of the United Nations in New York.

President Juan Carlos Varela confirmed the date and location of the meeting Sunday during the internal elections of the Panameñista party.

According to Varela, his counterpart from Costa Rica, Luis Guillermo Solis, will also attend the meeting, which was last two days.

He also said that the issue of drug trafficking will be raised.

On Oct. 25, Panama will hold a joint security council meeting with Colombia that will include a meeting between Varela and Colombia President Juan Manuel Santos.
