Panama’s  National Aeronaval Service (Senan)  has seized  161  bags containing, 3,989 packets of cocaine worth over $100 million in  North America, more if they were destined for the European market.

The confiscation of the nearly four tons shipment, after a high-speed chase, in the Martina area of the Caribbean represents a major blow to drug smugglers say authorities. Five Colombian citizens threw the bags into the sea said the Senan director of Operations.

Narco-traffickers  rook another hard hit on Sunday when over three tons of cocaine was seized by the National Aeronaval Service (Senan) off  La Chorrera bringing the weekend tally to 7 tons

The drugs were aboard two  25-foot high-speed boats fitted with 200 hp engines that were intercepted between Puerto Caimito and Playa Leona carrying  94 sacks containing 2,805 packages totaling three tons and with a value of  $70 million in the US.

The latest haul follows the capture of four tons of drugs off Isla Grande on the Atlantic coast on Saturday. Both seizures were part of Operation 001 Uniendo Fuerza.

Senan Commissioner Eliécer Cárdenas confirmed the arrest of traffickers and said that investigations were underway in Panama West to trace links.

Cárdenas reported that they have already confiscated more than 8 tons of drugs in July.

Panama authorities  capped a week of major drug   hauls  with the seizure of over 4.5 tons of cocaine  in the Caribbean on Saturday, August 3 by  border protection  personnel (Senafront)  

A statement said that the drug was transported in vessel manned by five Colombians. citizens. The Colombian navy authorities alerted Senafront , that the launch was moving towards Central America at high speed. According to the report when the crew noticed the presence of a Seafront unit they threw more than 90 packages of drugs into the sea but  they were intercepted and arrested..

Ton of cocaine seized in mangrove grove

Panama’s National Aeronaval Service (Senan) seized a ton of cocaine in 1,998 packages on the coast of the Tonosí Valley, in  Los Santos on Saturday, September 1.

 Enso Castillo, head of the fourth region of the Senan, said they located three stashes in underground caves in a mangrove area at the mouth of the   Tonosí River, near Bucaro and five kilometers from Puerto Vapor.

So far this year, the security body has seized about 29 tons of drugs, mainly cocaine, in 50 operations on the Caribbean and  Pacific coasts.  

The lastest seizure came a day after 26 tons of drugs were incinerated in one of the largest destruction operations in recent years

A total of 1,531 packages of  drugs  transported on  a submarine were seized by the National Police tactical unit of the  of Anti-Drug Operations (UTOA) off the coast of Veracruz on Thursday, September 26. The drugs were distributed in 55 sacks.

Aeronaval units seize almost two tons of drugs

A boat off the coast  of Los Santos carrying 2,001 packets of drugs totaling almost two tons was seized by units of The National Aeronaval Service (Senan) on Monday, November 4.

Enso Castillo, head of the fourth region of the Senan, said that the boat was located south of Punta Mala, coast of the Pedasí district.

Castillo said that two citizens of Costa Rican nationality were apprehended.

It is the second major seizure in the area in the last week, and a recent triple homicide in Herrera is believed to be linked to the first.

The National Aeronaval Service (Senan)  has confirmed the seizure pf  another  2,488 packages of drugs off the coast of Punta Mala, in the  Pedasí district of Los Santos province

Enzon Castillo, head of the Fourth Senan region said that a patrol on the coast of the Santeño Pacific a boat was intercepted.

Three Costa Ricans were apprehended, the Delegate Prosecutor for Drugs of Herrera and Los Santos has already begun an investigation.

This is the second shipment of drugs seized in less than a week on the coast of Pedasí and the fourth seizure in less than a month in the area.

The first was 1,298 kilos of cocaine, on the coast of El Valle de Tonosí, while the second was east of the coast of Punta Mala, when 1,200 packages of drugs were seized.

On November 3, a thousand packages of drugs were seized also south of Punta Mala

Latest drug seizures bring year total to 48 tons

Drug prosecutors in Colón and Guna Yala, together with units of the National Aeronaval Service (Senafront) and the National Border Service (Senan), seized 1,700 packages of illicit substance from a boat  near Isla Tigre, in the Guna Yala region on Friday adding to record  interceptions this year

So far some 22 tons of drugs have been seized in the Panamanian Caribbean, and a total of 48 tons have been retained throughout the national territory, security agencies said during a press conference in Cocolí.

Units of the National Air Service (Senan) have seized a 50 ft semi-submersible loaded with 1,234 packages of cocaine with a street value of multi-millions of dollars off Punta Burica on the western Pacific coast of Chile.

José Hernández, commissioner and head of the first Aeronaval region said that important seizure took place through patrolling and control of marine traffic between Panama and Costa Rica.

"This is an LPB vessel, a low-profile (semi-submersible) vessel 50 feet long and four feet wide in an artisanal structure which seeks to minimize its presence and be undetectable," said Commissioner Hernandez

He indicated that it is an artisanal structure that its manufacture tries to minimize its presence and be undetectable by naval and aerial means.

According to the authorities' report, the first seizure in Panama where a semi-submersible is achieved,   with the illicit substance and the crew on board

Diana Callende  the first superior prosecutor, said that it is a new vessel with a strategy not to be detectable, but it is a crime of international traffic with a  penalty from 10 to 15 years

During this operation, the three foreign citizens, two Colombians and an Ecuadorian were placed under the orders of the Drug Prosecutor's Office in the province of Chiriquí.

The vessel  was taken to the base of the Senan in Puerto Pedregal in Chiriquí.

After a record-breaking year in which security forces seized thousands of kilos of drugs and arrested dozens of narco-traffickers, members member of the National Aeronaval Service (Senan), one of their own on Saturday, December  28 when they found five packages of drugs in a car driven by a uniformed member.

The Anti-Drug Directorate (DNA), was responsible for conducting the search and found the drugs in the plastic-lined dashThe uniformed man was accompanied by his wife at the time of the incident, so both are under the orders of the Prosecutor's Office Specialized in Drug-Related Crimes inChiriquí and Bocas del Toro.

In a statement, the Senan indicated that it will provide the corresponding collaboration, with both to the Public Ministry and the National Police, in required investigations.

Two people found with $257,672.36  stuffed in two suitcases and a piggy bank on January 3 are behind bars following a court appearance and a plea deal on Monday, January 7.

Alberto McPhee and Gisela Rodríguez Martínez were sentenced to 60 months in prison through a penalty agreement for money laundering, at the request of the Drug Prosecutor's Office.

The conviction arises from a raid   in the area of Villa Graciela, Pedregal The couple could not justify the amount of money and took taking advantage of the penalty agreement and by taking responsibility for the money seized and reducing the time they will  be apart in separate jails.

Panama migration grab narco-trafficker for DEA

A Mexican citizen wanted in the United States by the DEA and Interpol, for his alleged links to narco-trafficking, was detained in  Chiriqui by the National Migration Service (SNM ) on Friday. January 10

He was arrested at the checkpoint in Guabalá,  while traveling on a bus on the Tolé-David route, claiming that he was Venezuelan. He had previously escaped from Peru.

Former National Police major  Alexis Cedeño, jailed for four years for aiding the escape of people linked to drug trafficking processes, will remain behind bars after a compliance judge refused to replace the penalty arguing that the crime of corruption of public servants is not in the catalog for the replacement.

Cedeño, is  currently serving his sentence in a cell of the transitional prison of the National Police, located in the Ancón district of Panama..

The decision was taken at a hearing held Monday, January 13, at the offices of the accusatory criminal system located in Plaza Ágora.

Cedeño was investigated for the alleged commission of drug-related crimes and against the public administration. His four-year sentenve came after he cooperated with prosecutors.

A deputy drugs prosecutor  allegedly  linked to a criminal network  to which  he fed information  on the progress of investigations was arrested after raids in Panama and Chiriqui   on Thursday, January 16

A Public Ministry abatement explained that the official of the Drug Prosecutor's Office is being investigated for the alleged crimes of corruption of public servants.

During the raids carried out by the Public Ministry, assets and monies estimated to be related to the illegal activity were recovered.

sources revealed that four individuals are under investigation as alleged members of a criminal network that is being prosecuted for drug-related crimes.

Panama’s Superior Court of Appeals has confirmed the decision of the Judge of Guarantees to order the provisional detention of former drugs prosecutor José Varela Alvarado, accused of corruption of public servants.

At the hearing, different investigative acts were listed, such as: data seizure, surveillance and monitoring, and wiretapping. In addition, the Court said, the measure is necessary and proportional to the nature of the event.

The Judicial Branch said that there are procedural dangers such as: the destruction of evidence that implies the possibility of destruction of material evidence and danger to the community.

The investigation began on December 23, 2019, after an anonymous call that notified the Superior Drug Prosecutor's Office, which alleged that an MP official was allegedly giving sensitive information in exchange for financial compensation to persons linked to investigations. for drug-related crimes.

On  Wednesday, February  19   the National Police arrested, in Chepo Manuel Camilo Rentería Lemus the alleged “capo” of the Colombian "Gulf Clan.

The same day, Panama’s Aeronaval Service (SENAN) in conjunction with the Colombian Navy. struck a major blow  against his operations with the seizure of  5 tons of cocaine  stashed in a semi-submersible launch in Bocas del Toro

Renteria Lemus  led the most important drug trafficking operations in the Panamanian Caribbean reports La Prensa

He entered the country in 2017, with fake papers,  and dominated the transfer of illicit substances on the Costa Arriba of Colon.

The Gulf Clan is currently considered the most powerful criminal network in Colombia engaged in drug trafficking, illegal mining and extortion.

The Clan also called Clan Úsuga or Los Urabeños (along the Gulf of Urabá, on the border with Darién), was founded in 2007 by one of the new generation of Colombian capos: Daniel Rendón Herrera, aka Don Mario, extradited to the United States in 2018. The US is also seeking the extradition of Rentería Lemus.

38 arrested as police raid dismantles synthetic drug lab

A laboratory manufacturing of synthetic drugs in the Betania district was dismantled on   Saturday, March 7  during  National Police operation  “ Pampa ”, that netted  38 people, nationals and foreigners, two of them minors, who were kept inside a house used for criminal activity.

Eighteen of those arrested are Panamanians, 13 Colombians, and seven Venezuelans.

 Police chief Jorge Miranda said that the operation achieved not only the dismantling of a production structure but also the distribution network,  

Prosecutor  Eduardo de la Torre fiscal in charge of the Second Prosecutor's Office Specialized in drug crimes said that it could be the first time that a laboratory dedicated to the sale, manufacture and distribution of this type of illegal substances in Panama has been dismantled.
