Metro line 2 partially opened for WYD

Metro Line 2  was partly inaugurated on Friday, January 17 at the Corridor Sur Station in a ceremony led by President Juan Carlos Varela accompanied by the Archbishop of Panama José Domingo Ulloa, construction workers, and World Youth Day (WYD) pilgrims.

After a  blessing by Ulloa, a  delegation led by Varela boarded one of the new trains to make the official tour of the operating stations, Pedregal, San Antonio, and Cinquantenaire and ended at the San Miguelito station.

Groups of pilgrims were gathered at each station.

The line will be running only for WYD, from January 18 to January 28. The complete line will be opened in  April, days ahead of the national elections.

From January 18 to 21 it will operate on regular schedule 5:00 a.m. at 11:00 p.m., and from January 22 to 25, it will operate from 5:00 a.m. until 2:00 a.m. On Saturday, January 26, and Sunday, January 27 service will be from 5:00 a.m. until 12 midnight.

"Services required:

-Recruitment of the reinsurance program
-Issuance of required policies and endorsements
-Collection of premiums generated by policies
-Attention and payment of the claims covered under the contracted policies
-Submit, within the first ten working days of each month, a monthly report to the Tendering Entity on the status of the claims filed, as well as the local and international events that may affect the coverage and services required
-Participate in the meetings that MPSA requests, to deal with issues related to the contracting of the services object of the tender
-Ambulance service."

Metro Line 2 branch to airport gets go-ahead

The order to proceed on the construction of  an  $88 million branch line that  will connect the Higher Specialized Technical Institute (ITSE) and Tocumen Internatioal Airport was issued on Wednesday, March 27.

The Line 2 Consortium(Odebrecht and -FCC )Consortium has 28 months to complete the work

Prior to the beginning of the construction phase, the contractor will undertake soil studies and surveys of the area defined for the development of the expansion, and then proceed with the basic designs and details of the project, said the Panama Metro in a statement.

The project includes: design engineering services, construction of civil works, auxiliary line installations and stations, and interfaces with the integrated railway systems

Panama Metro Line 2 opens Thursday

Line 2 of Panama Metro Line 2 is ready to go and operations will start at all 16  stations at 6 pm on Thursday, April 25, at 6:00 pm, and will be free to users for two weeks.

 Roberto Roy, director of the Panama Metro, said that  12 of the stations are on the Domingo Díaz road.

Although line 2 will be free for two weeks, it is important that users use the cards to enter the stations.

Panama Metro  Line 2 is up and running after an opening ceremony headed by  President  Juan Carlos Varela on Thursday,  April 25.

Travel on The transfer of Line 2 will be free until May 12.

The line has 16 stations on over a length of 21 kilometers of elevated track from San Miguelito to Nuevo Tocumen. It will have 21 trains of five wagons and will operate at the same time as Line 1 from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm, Monday through Friday; and on   Saturday and Sunday until 10:00 pm.

In its first stage, Line 2  will serve 500,000 users located in the most concentrated areas such as San Miguelito, Paraíso, the Vía Cincuentenario junction, the Villa Lucre urbanizations, Brisas del Golf, Los Pueblos shopping centers and Metromall; Urbanization San Antonio, El Parador in the village of Pedregal, Urbanization Don Bosco, the Technological University of Panama (UTP), Las Mañanitas, Hospital del Este, Altos de Tocumen, the shopping center La Doña and the community of Nuevo Tocumen.

According to studies by  Metro  Panamá, by  2035, the population of the Eastern sector of Panama City will exceed 750,000 with a daily generation of public transport trips between the periphery and the center of over  400,000.

Metro Line 2 fare  at 50c, less for seniors

Traveling  on the 21 kilometers of Panama’s Metro Line 2 will be 50 cents from Monday, May 13.

President Juan Carlos Varela signed the executive decree informed on Thursday, May 9

The decree establishes that all Panamanians or foreigners residing in the country aged with 55 years or over if they are women;  or  60 or over men, retirees, and pensioners and persons with disabilities duly identified, "will enjoy a discount equivalent to 30% of the value of the full fixed rate". That is, they will pay 35 cents. Students get  a 50% discount

To take advantage of the discount interested parties must process their personalized card for use in the Panama Metro at the offices located at the Albrook and Los Andes stations.

 Line 2 was inaugurated on April 25 by Varela and was built by the Line 2 Consortium (Brazil’s Odebrecht and Spain's FCC Construcción), at a cost of $ 2. 13 billion. It has  16 overhead stations, all high, and according to projections will transport some 200,000  passengers a day in the first months of operation

The  21 kilometers, the journey from San Miguelito to  Nuevo Tocumen takes 35 minutes.
