Maggie's List

(Pet Care Resources of the Chiriquí Province), and Pet Abuse
(Issue 1.17 Re-published August 31, 2017 with two additions.)

As a lead-in and related topic, there are legal restraints against the abuse of domestic animals in Panama. For those who wish to read the applicable statute, there is a separate topic here on CL that provides both the Spanish and the English language versions of Panama's Law 70, dated 18 October 2012. Here is a link to that topic:
     http://www.chiriqui.life/topic/2442-animal-protection-act-of-panama/

Below are various categories of resources in the Chiriqui Province that (a) support, (b) provide services or products related to, and/or (c) deal with pets. These resources are listed in alphabetical order based on the category name. Some of the listed resources are not located in the Chiriquí Province, but may be of interest to pet owners while in transit or needing pet relocation services.

If you have additional resources that you would like to have included in this resource listing or corrections to information found here, please send your suggestions via email to petvet@chiriqui.life.

This was a major undertaking by Bud and Marcelyn. Being local residents they know who to reach out to for the latest and best information. Unlike the other forum which has no "boots on the ground" in Panama

How This Pet Care Resource Listing Came Into Existence

There is a bit of sad history behind this pet/vet resource listing. Early in 2016 there was a tragic loss of a beloved pet dog by TwoSailors, who are CL members. That loss was the result of a snake bite. Marcelyn and I were so moved by the owner's struggle to save their dog, and the impact of that loss, that we decided to compile a listing of emergency pet care resources. The Boquete community quickly made it clear that such a resource listing would be used and appreciated, but even more important and valuable if it were to be generalized into a listing of all resources related to pets rather than just emergency care. And so that is what was done. Roughly two months worth of work, about 200 man-hours expended; it was a labor of love by many.

For John and Susan (TwoSailors), your tragic loss of Maggie has resulted in a lasting tribute to her in the form of the pet care resource listing here on CL. In honor of Maggie, we have nicknamed this pet care resource listing as "Maggie's List".

Oh my goodness, Bud and Marcelyn. We're so deeply moved by this tribute to Maggie. We know she's up there in pup heaven, wagging her whole body (she never could just wag her tail) and grinning her huge doggy grin, knowing that this list in her honor will help other pets. it's been almost a year since we lost her and we still miss her so terribly - but this lovely tribute does help ease the pain. Thank you so much!

With much gratitude,

John and Susan

All dogs are special, but some are EXTRA special. Maggie is among them. My Petey was another EXTRA-special dog. I still miss my Petey. He died on March 21, 2015, causes unknown. He and Maggie are probably special friends now, on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. John and Susan, I certainly identify with your  grief! For those of us who are truly lovers of dogs, having our special friend die is a death of a family member.
