International Driver's Permit

Recommended Posts

i don’t have an answer to your specific question, but am curious why you seek an international driver permit (IDP).  I have traveled a lot and rented vehicles in many places. Not once has my home country driver license and passport not been successful in those rental transactions. I do understand about identity purposes of an IDP. So would you say why you seek an IDP? If not, that is okay.

If in the US you get an IDP at AAA. You may want to read https://www.aaa.com/vacation/idpf.html.

Also https://m.driving-tests.org/beginner-drivers/international-driving-permit/ has some valuable information.

Hello "BD" ..... while I will be traveling, I will be driving my friend's vehicle.  Their insurance asked for my license and IDP (which is customary in Canada).  I possess a Panamanian drivers license, which is why I was asking if I can obtain an IDP at the Registry in David.  I guess that I will go there and find out.

Thanks,

Brian

If you are going to drive on your Panama Lic. some states in the US also require you to have a International Divers Permit. Here is a link to a site that is supposed to get you the local contact numbers.

https://internationaldrivingpermit.org/country/panama/

When you click through the site you get the following:

Thank you for that information .... VERY helpful.  I just spoke to Dante and they do issue IDPs for Panama.  Much more expensive than the usual $20.00, but at least you can get one.

In case anyone is interested .... his fee is $100.00 for a one-year IDP and $180.00 for a two-year IDP.
