Not being critical but I think you meant to say that the explosion rendered the building uninhabitable.

14 injured in apartment gas explosion - 4 serious

A  gas  explosion late   Friday night, in a five-story building of the Costa Mare housing complex in Costa Azul, in Don Bosco, injured at least 14 people, four seriously  including a mother and two of her children with severe burns in critical condition.

The  building is near to Colegio de Panama and the blast affected several adjacent buildings and was heard in Mañanitas, Don Bosco and  Tocumen International Airport. Units of the Fire Department of the Tocumen and Juan Díaz stations and a rescue vehicle from San Miguelito, ambulances and Sume 911 personnel. rushed to the scene.

Fire brigade personnel evacuated the wounded, who were transferred to hospital centers, including a 9-month-old baby and a 5-year-old   with burns to   75% of their body. The mother, 35, is in a private hospital and the two children are in the burns unit of the Hospital del Nino.

On Saturday, June 1 Units of the Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) and the  Fire Service, examined the structure of the building and declared it uninhabitable.

Residents have been moved to local hotels.

There were open gas valves in one of the inhabited apartments of PH Costa Mare where an explosion on Friday night, May 31 sent 14  people to the hospital.

 four of them are seriously injured and two listed in critical condition.

"It was what could have caused the amount of gas in the place to accumulate," said Espirito De Frías, of the National Directorate of Fire Safety, Prevention, and Research.

In addition, he indicated that they found in an apartment remains of wax aromatic candles on the floor.

 A family of Venezuelans that received serious lived in one of the apartments. Venezuelan expats are raising funds to assist the family who are  not covered by health insurance

A mother and her two minor children are hospitalized. 

Originally it had been indicated that this situation happened due to an explosion. However, the Fire Department later explained that it was a deflagration, that is, by liquid fuel that expands in the environment. "This violent combustion produces an expansive wave that bursts everything that is in its path sai on the side", detailed earlier Gabriel Isaza, deputy director of the Fire Service.

The 10-month-old baby burned in the gas explosion late    Friday night at PH Costa Mare, in Costa Sur, Don Bosco, died in the Hospital del Nino (Children’s Hospital)) burns  Sunday, June 2.  

The baby had burns to 87%  of his body. His five-year-old brother with burns to 68% of his body remains in critical condition. The 35-year old mother detained in a private hospital is in delicate condition. The family is Venezuelan and the expat community is raising funds to cover medical costs.

The explosion injured 14 people, rendered the apartment block uninhabitable and damaged four nearby buildings.

Scores of residents were evacuated from an El Cangrejo apartment complex on Sunday afternoon, June 2, just two days after a gas related tragedy iBosco that killed one and injured at least 14.

Personnel from the Panama Fire Department rushed to PH Trinity . after reports of a strong smell of gas and evacuated the building.

They checked the tower  floor by floor  and discovered  flaws in the alarm system

Firemen opened the doors and windows of apartments on the 19th floor of the building, to dissipate the gas and later, the gas supplier came to the site.  

The lieutenant of the firefighters, José Rodríguez, told media that the situation has been controlled. Residents, al will be able to remain in the building,  but will not be able to use gas from the communal system. 

"It could not be seen if it was an open key but yes, it could possibly be the main system of the pipes ... and there must be suitable personnel for the tightness test," Rodríguez said.

Superior homicide prosecutor, Emeldo Márquez, has opened a judicial inquiríy at the towers of the PH Costa Mare,  in Costa Azul, Don Bosco, which were affected by a gas explosion on Friday, May 31.

Márquez said  on Monday, June 3 that the Public Prosecutor's Office expects the report of the Panama Fire Department to determine whether it is a fraudulent or negligent act reports TVN,

He said that interviews have been conducted with residents of PH Costa Mare but there are victims who have not yet been able to talk because they are still in shock. A 10-month-old baby has died d from burns and her brother aged 5, is in “extremely critical” condition, in the Hospital del Nino. Their mother is in intensive care in the burns unit of Hospital Santo Tomas.

Juan de Arco, from the Security Directorate of the Fire Department, confirmed that apartment 2, on floor 2 of Tower 7, is the point where the explosion originated. De Arco said that tightness tests are carried out on the building's gas system. In addition, the administration of PH Costa Mare has been asked to present some documents, including evacuation plans.

Other residents affected by the explosion are staying at a hotel in  El Cangrejo and are now awaiting the promoter to provide answers about their homes in a building declared uninhabitable by the Civil Protection System (Sinaproc).

The five-year-old boy severely burned in the PH Costa Mare gas explosion on Friday, May 31 remains in “very critical condition” said medical staff at Panama’s  Hospital del Nino (Childen’s Hospital ) on Monday, June 3. The boy’s .10-months- old baby sister died on Sunday. Thirteen other residents, including the children's mother, were injured.

On  Monday, Dr. Michael Carrillo, responsible for treating the child, said that the current situation of the child is "extremely critical" because it presents severe damage to the internal body, due to the inhalation of smoke, in addition to burns to  87% of the body.  The children belong to the Venezuelan family Muñoz Lima, in whose apartment the explosion occurred.

"What we are doing now is to provide support to all the vital functions of the child, hoping that the inflammation of the burns and the injured lung go down, in such a way that the functions of his body return to the greatest possible normality",  he said.

Dr. Carrillo said that the Children's Hospital has always had a relationship with the members of the Abou Saad Shriners Foundation, who provide their services and care in this type of case.  

The doctor said that although there is a possibility that the minor may be taken abroad to continue some type of treatment, "it is not an immediate action due to is its delicate condition"   reports La Prensa.

 The boy was hospitalized in the burn room of the Hospital del Niño with burns in 87% of his body. The mother of the two minors is in the burns unit of the Santo Tomás Hospital.

Gas explosion child victim heads to Galveston specialized hospital

Miguel Ignacio Muñoz Lima the child under five years of age who was severely burned in a gas explosion in the PH Costa Mare in Don Bosco, on May 31,  and remains in critical condition, was transferred to a specialized hospital in Galveston,  Texas, at noon on Wednesday, June 5.

Gilberto Arosemena, of the Abou Saad Shriners Panama organization, said that the transfer was made in coordination with the doctors of the Hospital Del Nino (Children's Hospital)  and foreign specialists His medical expenses will be paid by the Abou Saad Shriners Panama organization.

The boy victim traveled by air ambulance to Galveston where his father who had gone ahead was waiting at the hospital. A medical team arrived at Ancon airport at 10.35 a.m to evaluate the victim's condition and travel with him on the four-hour return flight

On  Sunday, the 10-month-old baby brother of Miguel Ignacio's died from his burns. Their badly burned mother remains in intensive care.

Severely burned mother follows son to US for treatment

The severely burned young Venezuelan Karina Lima, one of three victims of the gas explosion in the PH Costa Mare,  in Don Bosco was transferred on Thursday night from  Santo Tomás Hospital to Galveston, Texas.

One of her two children a boy aged 4,  was transferred earlier in the week. A 10-month- month old child died from his injuries.

An ambulance of Sume 911 took her to Marcos A. Gelabert, Airport in Albrook, where an ambulance plane was waiting to take her to the  John Sealy Hospital, where she will be treated for burns that cover 90% of her body.

Ban on gas use continues in Costamare building

Over a week after the explosion  in one of the buildings located in PH Costamare in Don Bosco, near the Corridor Sur  the use of the gas system remains is still prohibited

The Panama Fire Department is still conducting investigations and has not authorized the use of gas until tightness tests have been completed, said spokesman Víctor Moreno

A 10-month old baby was killed in the blast on May 31  and 13 people were injured including Karina Lima, 35, the mother of the baby and her five-year-old son  Both are in a US Shriners’ hospital receiving treatment for massive  burns

The tightness test must be done every three years and the Fire Department is paid to issue the certification in each of the horizontal properties with the gas system reports TVN.

A La Prensa  poll of people living in apartment buildings   showed that  only 30% of apartment blocks in Panama abide by  the three- year rule people living in

TThe Primary Care Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the incident that made one tower uninhabitable and damaged three others. Prosecutors are investigating the incident
