Panama spiderman in 3-hour standoff.

Posted 11/03/2019
With the city already facing “return o school” traffic jams, units of the National Police and firefighters added to the congestion as they blocked streets during a three-hour struggle to capture a man clambering up buildings and across roofs and power r lines in Santa Ana district on Monday, March 11.

An alert was activated at 5 am when the man, believed to have mental problems,  refused to come down a from a ledge on a building housing the Episcopal Church and a private school, on Calle I.

The rescuers thought he was planning to jump and, initially used persuasion techniques to dissuade him and during negotiations, he was given a bottle of water that he requested,

Stairs at both ends of the building were used to try and reach him and inflatable mattresses were readied., He chose to flee again and jump over the roofs of several buildings and cross overhead electric cables as police followed and a growing crowd watched from street level.

Attempting a final jump he fell between buildings and was injured and transferred to a medical center with multiple injuries.
