It happens every year. The drought that affects the so-called dry arc of Panama does not truce in the summer, but nobody in the Government does anything to prevent its devastating and costly consequences. This year will be even worse because the effects of the El Niño phenomenon begin to feel strong. There is already a shortage of water in Azuero, where crops and livestock will be - as always - the first victims of that lack of vision of the authorities of the sector and of which they complain - with justified reason - the agribusiness. In Panama, it rains nine months of the year. So, how is it possible that reservoirs have not been made to store rainwater? There is simply no justification for so much negligence because droughts - as everyone knows - are not sporadic, they are usual during these months. In fact, every year, the media show overwhelming images of lost crops, of cattle that fall down without water or grass, and of the poverty that all this generates. But, for some reason, the authorities then go out to improvise on what is already usual. And everything, in the middle of the oblivion in which our national production is immersed. It is necessary to be incompetent or inhumane to sit idle during the nine months of the rainy season, to then improvise, when there is surely little to do or the crisis is irreversible. in the middle of the oblivion in which our national production is immersed.
