414 Panama homicides in 2018

Murders in Panama continued at over one a day in 2018  with a total of 414   ten  less than the previous year with firearms  used in  295 cases, while there  were  59 stabbing deaths

Men accounted for 368 deaths and 6 children died as a result of the violence in the country.

Weapons in the hands of criminals, gang members or organized crime accounted for 70% of the killings.

Homicide rates per 100,000 inhabitants are down to 7.5 cases.


This graph shows that there has been a steady decline in that statistic since 2009 which theoretically says Panama continues to become safer, particularly in comparison with our neighbours in Central America.


* Have to wonder about the accuracy of the reporting by Nicaragua.
