Several veteran stars of the major American leagues of baseball and basketball began today in Panama clinics for children in a sports complex of his Panamanian colleague Bruce Chen.

A spokesperson for MVP Sport City confirmed to Acan-Efe the presence of American Sam Perkins "The Big Smooth" (Dallas Mavericks, Lakers, Seattle, Indiana), who played 17 seasons in the NBA in the 80s and 90s of the last century. He won along with Michael Jordan and Chris Mullin the Pan-American Games held in Caracas in 1983.

Another visitor is Barbara Farris, from the Detroit Shock of the WNBA who also played professionally in France, Spain and Korea, and for the New England team in the American Basketball League and was assistant coach at New York Liberty.

They were joined by Puerto Rican baseball players Roberto Alomar (San Diego Padres, Toronto Blue Jays, Orioles, Cleveland Indians, among others) Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, since January 5, 2011; and Carlos Baerga, (Cleveland Indians, New York Mets, San Diego Padres, Samsung Lions, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks and Washington Nationals), Cleveland Indians Hall of Fame.

Both will alternate with Chen in the instruction to dozens of children until next Friday at the event, baptized MLB / NBA WorkShop, aimed at infants between 5 and 8 years.

The veterans will celebrate a friendly match with Chen's team next Saturday to close the sports complex's 2018 season.
