Tired and afraid of the growing number of assaults and crimes against them, Chepo taxi drivers took to the streets on Wednesday, November 14 to form a caravan in protest against the murder of one of their colleagues and to demand more security.

The drivers demonstrated over the death of Carlos Beitía,30, who died from stabbings caused by three assailants who posed as passengers.

According to police reports, the suspects boarded  Beitía’s taxi in Paso Blanco de Pacora, saying that they were going to the sector of the Naranjal, bridge that leads to the La Joya prison. They attacked the driver and inflicted eight knife wounds.

The killers then took the vehicle and drove away. Beitía was found by a colleague, who took him to the nearest hospital. He was conscious when he arrived but died soon after.

The taxistas are calling k for more security,  as providing service in the area has become a life-risking experience
