Panamanian passenger traffic grows 5.1% in the first semester of 2018

Tocumen International Airport, the main airport in Panama, received 7,933,597 passengers in the first half of this year, 5.1 percent more than in the same period of 2017, the terminal administration reported today.

According to the data of the Vice Presidency of Planning and Strategy of Tocumen, 5,797,848 million travelers made a stopover, 9.3 percent more than in the first semester of 2017.

The airport served an average of 43,000 passengers per day, which were mobilized through 23 commercial airlines, which connect with 86 cities in 37 countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia, the source said.

Between last January and June Tocumen airport received 1,092,335 passengers arriving in the country with 1,043,414 departing, while aircraft movements increased by 1.1 percent, registering a total of 73,324 arrivals and departures of aircraft.

The destinations with the highest passenger traffic that traveled through Panama were José (Costa Rica), Bogotá (Colombia), Miami (USA), Cancun (Mexico) and Havana (Cuba). 41 percent of the passengers traveled to and from South America; 31 percent from and to North America; and 12 percent from and to the Caribbean.

The 16 commercial cargo airlines that operate in the Panamanian terminal mobilized a total of 84,421 metric tons of goods in the first half of this 2018.
