  1. Escuela Basica General de Volcan (in Volcan, Chiriqui, Panama), asked us to give a presentation about spaying and neutering--and the care of dogs in general. We hope that students all over Panama will watch the video--plus everyone who wants to take the best care of their canine pet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3znLEnxip8&feature=youtu.be The video is by me, Dorothy (Dottie) Atwater, and the translation is by Francia Pinedo, who has been the registrar at our clinics since the beginning in 2006. So the video is in both English and Spanish. Ours is certainly not a "professional" presentation--you can laugh along with us about our goofs. But the information is here, and that's the important thing. Enjoy, and thanks for watching! And to read about the benefits of sterilization AND the animal abuse laws in Panama, see the left-hand column at http://spaypanama-chiriqui.org Dottie
  2. February 19th, 2017 - 48 animals were spayed/neutered by Dr. Andres Tello, our wonderful veterinarian. He also performed several exams and removed a venereal tumor from a female dog. To date we have sterilized 3,799 dogs and cats. http://spaypanama-chiriqui.org/102nd.html See the link on the web page for the photo album of pictures taken during the clinic. 16 dogs and 6 cats were either last-minute cancelations or no-shows, which is deplorable. We will implement a new procedure in the future. Dogs or cats to be sterilized that have other issues (in heat, pregnant, tumors, hernias, amputations, etc.) require more time. When those animals are interspersed during the day, people who have animals for sterilization only have to wait too long. Therefore, animals with additional issues will be scheduled toward the end of the day. (Thanks to Andrea Gonella for the suggestion.) Our next clinic will be on March 19, 2017. Please call for an appointment right away. The clinics fill up rapidly. Thanks to everyone who participated in our clinics today, and to those who had their pets sterilized. Always remember that TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Dottie
  3. http://spaypanama-chiriqui.org/100th.html We had a grand celebration for our 100th clinic! See my web page for details. 45 animals were spayed/neutered by Dr. Andres Tello, our wonderful veterinarian, plus he performed 10 other procedures: exams, extracting teeth, removing growths from an already sterilized dog, etc. Three of my own dogs were among the 10 extra procedures. With one, he removed a growth from underneath her chin and recommended a medication for another condition she has. With another, he removed a growth on her gum in her mouth. At this November 20, 2016 clinic Dr. Tello sterilized 25 dogs and 20 cats. Of the dogs, 19 were female and 6 were male. Of the cats, 17 were female and 3 were male. This brings our total of sterilized dogs and cats to 3,707. We never know what will be necessary at a clinic, so thank God for the expertise of Dr. Tello. One small dog was in heat and she bled profusely during spaying because of the distended veins. Dr. Tello stopped the bleeding but said she needed a blood transfusion. Go to my web page and the link to my Flickr album to see pictures of how this blood transfusion was done. Please call for appointments for January 22nd. Call quickly because we already have 34 appointments on the list! (No clinic in December.) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone! Dottie
  4. SpayPanama-Chriqui is a low-cost spay/neuter clinic in Volcan. We have one veterinarian, our wonderful Dr. Andres Tello who comes from Costa Rica. (He is Panamanian but lives in Costa Rica.) We hold our clinics once a month in Volcán, except for December. Except for our veterinarian, neither I nor anyone else connected with the clinics receives any pay or financial benefit. I rent the building where we hold the clinics, and I buy all the anesthesia, medications, instruments, supplies, and equipment. I have no offices, no salaries, no advertising, no overhead. Every penny goes for the animals. This is a project from my heart, and I pay the deficits from my own pocket. Please donate if you can. Please visit http://spaypanama-chiriqui.org. See contact information there to call for an appointment. Our clinics fill up very fast. Dottie
