  1. Yesterday we went to Jaramillo to try to see how we can help a old guy who has 4 dogs and three small puppies, we left dog food for them, the mother of the puppies is small-medium size, she is seven years old and she was pregnant eight times ? We would like to help more but we need to give in adoption the puppies that we have and then we can take the mother and the small puppies. If somebody wants to help with foster, dog food, pay for the blood test to the mother and the other 3 big dogs, no puppies, buy medicines and vitamines, we will receive a donation for a friend who is in Europe, she will pay the spay and neuter cost, we asked to her that please send the amount of spay and neuter directly to the PayPal of Amigos de Animales. Please contact us. Remember that we need the support of the Community to continue helping animals. Magaly 65638686 / Javier 69659423 Thank you so much!!
  2. Mr. Mitts had a family who loved him and gave him a good life. He spent a lot of time outdoors, but had the ability to come inside as well. His family left Panama and unfortunately was not able to return due to medical reason. Mr. Mitts is currently in a foster home, but they are moving at the beginning of September and cannot take him with them. He is gentle and loving. Mr. Mitts tested positive for the Feline HIV virus although he does not have the disease and may not for many years. He would need to be the only cat in the home so the virus can't spread, or would need to share a place with cats that already have the virus. Tanya is also looking for a new foster home. She is an adult female cat, approx. 6 years old. She would make the ideal companion. Being older, she has a mellow and mature personality and doesn't need to be entertained like a kitten. She does not get along with other cats and would prefer to be the only house cat. She is looking for a lap to “cuddle” on. If you can help with fostering either of these cuties, even for a short time, please contact us. ARF provides all food and any necessary medical treatment.
  3. Beginning March 1st for only two months. They will pay for food and provide the dog's crate and blanket where he likes to sleep at night. Friends in Boquete rescued this dog from an Indio. They tended a wound in the dog's leg and had him neutered. He went from a terrible life to a good life. The dog is apparently deaf. He is a hound...and of course howls. They have to return to the states for two months and they're at their wit's end about finding care for their beloved dog during that time. Can you help? 6517-8752 Dottie

  5. Hello everyone! For December, the amount of monthly donations was $2437.00 and expenses totaled $2475.00. Thank you to everyone who contributed! 4 dogs found their forever home this month, and 2 cats were adopted. If you have any friends or relatives looking for a pet, please direct them to our site or have them contact us, as we have many ready for adoption. Our year end totals are 52 dogs and 24 cats that found their forever homes. To start off 2017, we have 28 dogs and 8 cats in our care. Please consider fostering an animal if you are able to do so. We are in desperate need of temporary homes for the many animals that the community is alerting us to and are having a very difficult time keeping up. It is never our goal to turn away an animal in need, but we only have so many places to put these animals, and we need your help. When you foster an animal with ARF, we take care of all food and medical expenses – we just need you to provide a loving and protective environment. 6. Here are a few of our friends hoping to find a loving home for the new year: Charlie is a male Cocker, around 3 years old and weighs 35 lbs. He likes to chase cats, but does not harm them. He is friendly with other dogs, chickens and children. His favorite pass time is cuddling. Very sweet little guy. Winnie is ready for adoption! It has been since February that this girl has been given TLC to get back her health and her weight…..she looks like a real Boxer now! She was being starved by her owner, and it was touch and go for a while there. Winnie is a very smart girl. She is good with other dogs but not with cats. She loves cuddles and car rides. She is very much a family dog that is very loyal and protective. Susie is a sweet and very smart little Panamanian Bird Dog, very rare we are certain. Her foster is teaching her basic commands and how to walk on a leash. She will be ready for adoption in January 2017 and is looking forward to finding her permanent home. Susie was rescued after giving birth to 10 pups. Caramel the kitty is approximately 6 months old (as of January 2017) He is very playful, cheerful, and loves other cats. He is also a good hunter. Caramel loves to be cuddled and held. He prefers to be inside, but also enjoys the outdoors. This sweet little hound, Elle Mae, was a stray helped by some very kind people who have now moved. Dr. Tello tells us that she is quite young, has never had pups, and is in good condition. She is very sweet and playful and gets along with other dogs. She looks as though she may be at least part German Short Haired Pointer. 8. Hello all, Well, I thought we might get a bit of a break over the upcoming holidays, but this is proving not to be the case. This is a plea to current, past, and future ARF fosters, as well as ARF donators, contacts, and the Boquete community in general for foster or forever homes for these animals. In the past two weeks + there have been many animals brought to our attention that we need to find placement for, some needing immediate placement. The most urgent are noted below. Pictures are attached. Cholo: This handsome guy was brought to our attention by a gentleman in Alto Boquete. Cholo had been hit by a car and they graciously offered to take care of him during the recovery period. Once he was feeling better, however, Cholo made his great escape and was wandering the neighborhood (probably because he was not yet fixed). Another rescue angel found him, and now he is recovering from his neuter surgery on Saturday. Cholo needs to be moved as soon as possible as he needs to be monitored and his current environment is not ideal. He has already removed his stiches from the surgery and had to be taken back to the vet to be re-stitched. Elle Mae: This young girl has been hanging around someone's house, but sadly they cannot keep her and she must find place to go by December 2nd. They have fattened her up and gotten her spayed and now she is ready to make a great pet for someone with a fenced yard. She is very friendly, playful with other dogs and is a good watchdog. If you can give Ellie Mae a safe place, you'll be rewarded by the warmest welcomes every time you come home! Vijeo: This very sweet old guy was one of the dogs that was the inspiration for the founder of ARF to start the organization. He was run over by a bus about 5 years ago and his legs are a little wobbly, but he still gets around quite well. His many scars are testament to the rough life he has endured. He has an interest in cats, in a friendly way, and pretends to be a "macho man" around other dogs, but in reality, he just ends up whining at them. Vijeo is a senior dog in his final years, and we would like to find a loving home where he can spend the rest of his days lounging and receiving the love that he deserves. Suzie: This little girl is being surrendered by her owner. She recently had 10 puppies and was discovered and brought to our attention soon after the birth. On a daily basis, she was waiting by a garbage bin for scraps to be discarded as her "meal" for the day . She was in terrible condition and still has a ways to go before she is healthy. We helped the owner with food and supplements during the nursing, so she looks a bit better, but still needs some TLC and proper vet care. She is a little feisty around new people, but once she gets to know you she is a love bug. (picture is prior to being properly fed so she has some weight on her now). When you are a foster for ARF, all food, medication and vet bill costs are covered by ARF. There are also many more out there that we have not even had an opportunity to investigate so we are also appealing for bi-lingual people to help with investigations. Our current volunteer base is overwhelmed with trying to keep up. If you, or anyone you know can help with either fostering or investigations, please contact us. 9. UPDATE NOVEMBER 11, 2016: Alex escaped from the nice people who were looking after him, and has again been found. He is not in an ideal situation right now, and we are looking for a safe place for him to stay. If you can open your heart and home to this handsome guys until he finds a forever home, please contact us. Alex was hit by a car on September 29th and wandered over to a nearby house. These people have generously offered to look after him. ARF took him to the vet to have his leg examined, and thankfully it was not broken, but a very bad sprain that will take some time to heal. He was given painkillers, a vitamin shot, de-wormer and anti-biotics as he also has a urinary tract infection. Alex was the most cooperative patient I have ever seen! Not even a flinch when he was given his shots and even though this guy must have been feeling miserable and in quite a bit of pain, he still had a very loving and gentle disposition. Alex is about 2 years old. We believe he has an owner as he did have a collar on, but no one has come forward as of yet. If the owners are not found, Alex will be put up for adoption. If you would like to donate towards Alex's medical costs, please visit our website. 10. Oct 29, 2016 - This little guy, was rescued by someone in David. He was taken to St. Francis animal hospital and was being treated for a very bad case of mange. Pepe's rescuer then took him to a foster home, which turned out not to be ideal. ARF got involved and found a new foster home for him. Nov 2, 2016 - Updated picture of Pepe (now being called Marley) in foster care. The cone is to keep him from scratching under his chin, where he has some pretty bad open sores, and the socks are to lessen the effect of him scratching his body elsewhere. Nov 9, 2016 - Marley has gained 2 pounds in the last week, but continues to have a very bad and persistent cough which is being monitored. His vet visit on Monday revealed that he has tick fever, so he is now on antibiotics for that. The vet bills are rising, and we could use your help again. All of the animals that we rescue come to ARF in various ways. Rescuing animals is not just simply taking them in, feeding them and placing them in new homes. It is more complicated than that. ARF is often called to assist with animals that have been abused, are in distress or have been neglected. This includes a visit to the site or home where the animal is located, and an evaluation of the situation. If an owner is involved, they are spoken to regarding the condition of their animal and if steps are not taken to correct the situation, their animal can be seized. In many cases, animals are just found wandering the streets in a poor state. We try to help as many of these animals as much as we can. Often, it depends on if there is a foster available to take them in. They can be in our care for only a few days or as long a year. We are responsible for the health care and the socialization of each of our animals. This is necessary for a successful adoption. All of this takes time, money and foster homes. If you would like to donate your time, money or be a foster home please contact us. 12. Wendy We happened to follow up on a call to visit a finca near Isla Verde one hour after this pretty girl had given birth to her pups. She is now ready for adoption as all her pups are on their healthy way. Wendy is about two years old and gets along well with other dogs and loves to play. She is a bit on the quiet side – doesn’t bark much. She is on the smaller-medium size, and weighs about 40 lbs. Meet Bobby. He is about 6 months old and a handsome little guy. He is a very sweet and social dog. Bobby was rescued, along with his mom and 5 siblings from the Palo Alto area from a man who was threatening to poison all of them if they were not removed from the area. Judging from his mom’s size, Bobby will probably be on the smaller medium side once full grown. 13. Scooby is looking for a loving home . He is getting fixed on October 30th. He can only stay in his foster until the 1st of November and after that he has no place to go. He is a very friendly boy and on the quiet side, although he does like to play with other dogs. We received a large contribution this month and we cannot thank the donators enough! Thank you to the “The Maggie Fund” to the tune of $500.00. A special thank you – To Heidi and Mike from Mike’s Global Grill. They donated some items for the Pancake Breakfast and are always so supportive in everything we do………Thank You!!!! 9 dogs and 3 cats found their forever home this month….we are so happy for these furries! If you have any friends or relatives looking for a pet, please direct them to our site or have them contact us, as we have many ready for adoption. Please consider fostering an animal if you are able to do so. When you foster an animal with ARF, we take care of all food and medical expenses – we just need you to provide a loving and protective environment. If you are not in the position to foster an animal, please consider making a donation. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Events: Recap: Pancake Breakfast/Adoption Event: This event turned out to be a great success all around. Thank you to all those that supported us by attending, and to all of our hard working volunteers who made this happen. We actually oversold the event so we have put this on the calendar for next year in February. Three dogs found their forever homes and for those 3 dogs this event made a difference! ARF has a busy November coming up with 3 functions. Make sure to mark your calendars! Bingo – November 3rd at La Villa at the BCP. Cash prizes! Remember, the more people who come, the bigger the prizes are so bring your friends! We just got our new bingo cards in-300-no duplicates, so we have plenty to go around. Thanksgiving Lunch/Dinner! On Thanksgiving Day (November 24th) we will be having a Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings. Rather than slave in the kitchen all day, bring your friends and family and let us do all the work and help the animals at the same time! As a “thank you” to the community for all of your support in the past we will be offering an affordable alternative to what is available in Boquete. As Thanksgiving is associated with a bountiful feast, we would also like to ask those attending to give back and bring a bag of food (Purina/Pedigree/Kirkland) or cat/dog toys to contribute for the many animals we currently have in our care. The tickets will be $20.00. The event will run from 2:00pm-4:00pm at the Animales Building and we will be raffling off two gift baskets with Autumn themed goodies. There will also be a full bar available. Holiday Bazaar for WINOS (Women in Need of Shopping) – This is an afternoon event planned for November 30th at Mike’s Global Grill…..just in time to get started on your Christmas shopping. Many unique vendors will be there selling their wares…….details will be announced shortly. And for December……we are taking a break! Attached are pictures of a couple of long timers with ARF needing a forever home: Buddy and Bingo Buddy was hit by a car and lacking nutrition at the time of his accident. We have had him since April and would really like to find a home for him. He is about 5 years old, medium size, and has a great personality. He loves to play with other dogs and is high energy. He is patient and waits for his food until he is given permission to eat. He does not like rain or thunder and wants to be inside the house during any storms. Bingo has also been with us for quite some time and we would like to find him a forever home to make room for the many other animals out there waiting for a spot. Bingo is fine with being an outside dog. He is about 5 years old and makes an excellent watch dog and loyal companion. He was surrendered to us in February of this year. 15. Hello all, We are in urgent need of a temporary foster home for Linda. She is an older, very mellow dog. Her current foster has to leave for a family emergency and will be gone approximately 3 weeks. When you foster for ARF, we provide the food, medication, etc. All you need to do is provide a bit of love, and a safe place for our friends to lay their head. 16. Chomba is a seven year old female that belonged to an elderly lady who passed away. She is ready to be adopted and will lose her foster home at the end of November when they return to the States. Chomba is very playful and can be an inside or outside dog. She grew up around other dog and cats and is a very friendly girl. 17. This is Abuela. She is approximately 7 years old and has been spayed. We do not know her story, as she simply “showed up” on someone’s doorstep one day. It is very obvious that for most of her life she was probably on a short chain. Her “elbows” and rear show signs that she was made to sit on a hard surface for long periods of time. Abuela has been tested positive for tick fever, so she will need to be on medication for 3 weeks. She has a very sweet disposition and just wants to be loved. Abuela is a large dog, approximately 70 pounds. When you foster an animal for ARF, all food, medication and vet care is paid for by ARF. 18. This beautiful dog is looking for a good home. The woman currently looking after him has this to say about him: "I live in Potrerillos. There is a beautiful, friendly, loving German Shepard in the neighborhood with bright blue eyes who needs a forever home. His owner barely made it out of the hospital 2 or 3 months ago. His health is in very poor condition and he has had to move into an apartment in David to be closer to the hospital. Unfortunately, the owner could not bring Sanatra with him. Therefore Sanatra is looking for a new home Sanatra gets along very well with my dog and he tolerates my cats. Sanatra has a great disposition." This woman would like to keep Sanatra, however, she cannot afford the additional cost for food, so in the meantime, until we can find him a good home, ARF will be providing food. If you are interested in providing a home or food for Sanatra, please contact us. 19. Hello everyone! For July, the amount of the monthly donations were $1,796.00 (this included funds from our fundraiser Men Who Cook) and expenses totaled $1,309.00. Thank you to everyone who contributed! 3 dogs and 4 cats found their forever home this month….we are so happy for these furrys! If you have any friends or relatives looking for a pet, please direct them to our site or have them contact us, as we have many that will be ready for adoption in the coming weeks. We currently have 35 dogs/puppies and 12 cats/kittens under the ARF umbrella that we are caring for. A special thank you goes out to Cindie R. who donated two crates to us for use in transportation and boarding. Please consider fostering an animal if you are able to do so. When you foster an animal with ARF, we take care of all food and medical expenses – we just need you to provide a loving and protective environment. If you are not in the position to foster an animal, please consider making a donation. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Events: Our Men Who Cook event took place on July 23rd and was a great success! The food was delicious (thanks guys!) and the setting was beautiful (thanks to the Kents) All had a great time. This will most likely be an addition to the ARF annual events. The next Bingo event is coming up soon and details will be put out shortly. Location is La Villa at the BPC. Remember to invite your friends – we are offering cash prizes and the more people that attend, the bigger the prizes! The fundraising team has several fun ideas on the table for our next event and we will keep you advised. Here are a few of our friends needing a foster or forever home: Nubee, Indy and Tasha. Please visit our web site for more information on them. We also need help in additional areas. Other volunteer positions available are: Transporters: We need people willing to transport animals and help us set up for our fundraising functions and other events. Fundraising: A great opportunity to be creative and have some fun putting together fundraisers for the animals. If you are interested and would like to participate, please visit our site in the volunteer section and complete a form. And of course, we need……FOSTERS, FOSTERS, FOSTERS! In Memoriam - TIKO: Last but not least, our thoughts go out to Beth Abrahams, one of our dedicated volunteers, who sadly lost her beloved Tiko this month to acute Pancreatitis. If you have a Miniature Schnauzer, please read up on this silent killer. 20. Onyx loves to play with other dogs. He knows "sit" and walks on a leash well. He will be 4 months old Aug. 30 and has been neutered. He is a confident little dog, not skittish, and not aggressive. He is learning how to be a "guard dog" from the other two dogs in his foster family. Onyx likes to be independent during the daytime, but likes a little lap time in the evening.....though he is getting big for that now! Onyx is a sweet boy, nice personality. Part Pitbull, part Lab, and pure Panamanian. Rudy Delgado Rudy is around 7-9 months old, medium to small sized shepherd mix. He loves being around people and other dogs and is extremely friendly and loving. He enjoys playing with toys and especially likes having something to chew on. He will be an excellent watch dog, as he is already barking and alerting when something is amiss. He is semi-house trained, as he sleeps inside at night without a crate and has no accidents. He would make a great companion dog for someone who has an active lifestyle or a wonderful companion for another dog.
  21. Hi all, we are in need of a temporary foster for this dog. He has been wandering the streets near The Rock for some time now. A nice couple has offered to feed him, and help to build trust with us humans.....he is coming along but still a bit skittish. He is a beautiful dog, just in need of a little TLC. He will need the typical "clean up", vet check and possibly medication and/or supplements, which will be provided by ARF. If you think you have the patience, and love to offer this boy, please contact us. 22. This sweet girl is looking for a foster home until she is ready for adoption. She is being treated for an infection right now (tablets in food), and we are hoping she will be ready to be spayed the end of July. She is currently tied up outside her owner's home, and we are looking for a foster home where she can be comfortable while healing. The owner has agreed to surrender her for adoption. If you can offer this girl a temporary spot, please contact us by email on arf.boquete@gmail.com.
  23. This girl was abandoned by her owners and is now roaming her neighborhood seeking attention. Lady is lucky enough to have run in to a kind lady who had her spayed and de-wormed and is feeding her on a temporary basis. She is a bit shy and timid, but that's understandable. She previously had a place to call home, and now that is gone, so she's probably a bit confused. She barks at strange noises which would make for a good watch dog. She is about a year old, and is just looking for someone to love her. Contact ARF at arf.boquete@gmail.com if you are interested in meeting her.
  24. This mom and her 6 pups need a place to stay. If anyone can help, please contact us at arf.boquete@gmail.com.
  25. Hi all. Again, we are appealing to the Boquete community for help in finding some temporary homes for some of our rescues. Buddy, the pup pictured below currently has a case of Kennel Cough, which is very contagious to other dogs, so he needs to be placed in a home with no other dogs. We also have 6 cats that we are trying to find temporary homes for- (pictures not available) range in age from very young to a few years old. Please contact us on arf.boquete@gmail.com if you think you might be able to help. If you would like to help us continue our work in rescuing, treating, and finding homes for the abandoned and neglected pets in the area, please visit our website to make a donation. Any help is appreciated. http://www.arf-boquete.com/donate.html
