  1. That publication has not been active for years. I'm sure, as always, that the NFS founders would love your donation, however. Last I heard, these folks were continuing their "operations" in Chile, until General Bert got sick. Regardless of how you view these folks, they have offered a ton of entertainment value over the years, and I thank them for that.
  2. Well really, Boquete just needs to market itself more forcefully as "Little America", which, of course, it already is. Just IMAGINE the increase in property values as disenchanted liberals from the north flee here! http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/complete-guide-fleeing-president-donald-trump-america-article-1.2549397
  3. English muffins at Philipe Motta, Plaza Terronal.
  4. In the interest of full disclosure, isn't it true, Danielle, that you share a close familial relationship with one of the moderators (Olga Suarez) of boquete.ning?
  5. SO concerned? Hardly. Posts about .ning rarely appear here anymore since so many of us were banned from that site for minor infractions. To say that posts over there are the responsibility of the person posting is disingenuous, as MANY conversations over there have been closed down solely at the whim of the moderator(s). At a certain point, I think, when the content that appears there becomes blatantly racist, there is a good reason for stepping in to stop it. As others have said, it reflects poorly on both the site as well as the community we live in. I would post a couple of pictures from the thread I referenced, but they are SO over the top offensive that I'll leave it to you do your own research.
  6. So here is my answer to your post; would it have made any difference whether Al Gore or G.W. Bush was elected in 2000? I made the same kind of arguments you made here back then. I was wrong. Just ask the 4,000 dead and 32'000 wounded as a result of our actions in Iraq.
  7. Here's why; when a forum like boquete.ning, which claims to be a site dedicated to informing the local community about events and happenings around the area devolves into a place where racist and anti-Semitic insults are hurled, I think they need to be called on it. And when they claim that oh...we just don't have the time to moderate these posts, I say bull****. They sure seem to have time to respond to every single post that criticizes their MANAGEMENT of the site. So I would ask YOU, Danielle, why do you NOT care when racist comments of the very worst kind are allowed on a local community forum?

  9. Ironically, the "cold chain facilities" in Volcan (cold storage) appear to not be used at all. A huge financial investment that over the last few years has done almost nothing. What a sad waste of money (so far) by the Martinelli admin.
  10. I suspect that these ratings are skewed towards the larger metropolitan areas. If you compare Panama City to Bogota Colombia - no comparison. Bogota is FAR worse in terms of congestion in my opinion.
  11. Thanks Roger, I enjoyed the Video. I have to say, however, that while I find most Panamanians to be very accepting of people of other nationalities, probably more so than people in the U.S., there is a strain of nationalism that becomes very obvious on FB and other social media. Criticism of anything Panamanian, however well-intentioned, is quite often met with calls for you to leave the country. It also seems to me that there are some local attitudes toward Colombians, in particular, that smack of cultural bias. Your thoughts?
  12. I'm not a big Walmart fan. In fact as a lifelong Teamster, I repudiate many of their business practices, which include moving assets and income overseas to reduce their tax liability to the U.S. On the other hand, its not likely, in my opinion, that many of the business practices of Walmart, that I and others abhor necessarily apply to operations in Central America.
  13. Very nice post. For those interested in plants favored by hummingbirds, I suggest Porterweed as perhaps the best plant for attracting them. Stachytarpheta species.
  14. Configuring the activity stream to selectively see only what I want to see. I always thought I could do that on my own. And I guess I can. One of the interesting things about a community forum, in my opinion, is to read over both the things that interest you, things that you agree with, and those that you don't. How strange the reactions by some people to a difference in opinion over what is really a minor point of disagreement. And for me, that disagreement is not about content, its about being forthcoming about who we are, and who is posting what. Very simple.
  15. Huh...didn't realize this was only an issue for me. That being the case, I will try to make it a point not to read any more posts from anonymous sources. Fair enough?
  16. Here's a real simple solution; please have all the posts by the "Newslady" signed by whoever wrote them. Most already are. My 2 cents.
  17. My objection is that if someone is posting something here, we ought to be able to decipher from whom the information derives. That's just my opinion. Perhaps the forum owners have a different view.
  18. Yeah, I picked up on that. Seems to me that if you allow others to post under your name or moniker, that you are responsible for the content. Not really a good idea, in my opinion.
  19. Penny, I would suggest that IF these are your own posts that you sign them with your name.
  20. This experiment on my part, of planting Tropical Milkweed has proven effective. In fact, Monarch butterfly larvae continue to strip the plants on my property, and both caterpillars and butterflys have been more or less constantly on site for about a year. My only concern is that the milkweed plant (which is native here) could prove problematic to local cattle farmers, as the plant is toxic to some degree. On the other hand, I constantly find seedlings in the Solanum (nightshade) family growing here that I'm sure are every bit or more toxic.
