I wonder how many million tons of C02 is being generated by the California wildfires each day. A lot of this stuff is just virtue signaling by corporations. As long as China keeps opening several new coal plants each week, I'm not sure it matters.

It has become increasingly obvious that lockdowns don't work and are almost certainly counterproductive. You only have to look at US states that have lifted restrictions and those that have not. The lockdowns last year in Panama were completely ineffective as Panama had the worst caseload in the region. We know that Covid is spread indoors, not outdoors. Locking people indoors is not good science.

I hope the weekend curfew doesn't apply to people flying into David on Saturday!

This is coming at an inopportune time. Costa Rica has had a huge spike in Covid cases, by far the worst of the entire pandemic. Perhaps it will be better in June, but now is not the time to travel there.

My wife and I filled it out and got a confirmation of successful registration. I will enormously surprised if we are ever contacted about it. There is nothing that indicates it will get you any priority for the vaccine or any notification of its availability.
-
It's not readily apparent to me what value there is in filling out this form. There is no suggestion that it will get you vaccinated any sooner than anyone else. It's not even clear in the explanation on the form what the government will do with it. This isn't a very effective demographic measure, and it sure isn't the census that didn't happen last year as planned. The government had better not be making distribution decisions based on who responds to a voluntary internet form.
On the other hand, I don't see any harm in filling it out.

Tuesdays are mens' days. I don't think the market can declare the 29th a womens' day.

I'm not sure this will eliminate bribes at all. They will simply occur before the electronic ticket is written, right?

All in the name of "consumer protection" . Stupidity.

The annual plate replacement here in Panama was one of the oddest things I have encountered. Of course, it seems odd that the annual vehicle inspection doesn't involve an inspection of anything except the paint colors, LIKE THAT MATTERS.

According to some of Ken's close friends, Ken was brutally murdered. An autopsy is necessary for legal purposes but there is no doubt. There is also little doubt who did it. Police are actively seeking this individual.

It seems to me that there is a fundamental question that has not been resolved. Is this State of Emergency allowed under the Panamanian constitution, or not? These protestors were almost certainly violating quarantine. I'm about tired of the heavy-handedness of the restrictions, and if they are unconstitutional, they should be lifted.

I have no idea of the underlying controversy, but this certainly seems like a dangerous ruling.

I hope a new buyer continues to operate the property as well as it has been through the years.

I believe Anayansi wrote the email because she wanted to explain her position because there was a lot of negative feedback from the community. My personal opinion is that she made a huge mistake and one that she may well regret in the future.
That could be. At the moment, though, she's the only one making any money.

The El Cancho gymnasium comes to mind, as does the Bible Fellowship building (former Amigos, etc) as offering sheltered vendor space and roomy parking options.
Is the El Cancho gym the one in Los Naranjos?

BCP says it plans to reopen at another downtown location, and will announce it later. They can't reopen under current government restrictions, but there's not another auditorium elsewhere that I'm aware of.
-
There seems to be a lot of intrigue to the situation. I assume Anayansi Menéndez is the owner of the property that was shared by BCP and Tap Out. It's pretty clear that the situation is not going to be resolved the way Sra. Menéndez suggests above. I don't know what use Tap Out can make of the auditorium, but it doesn't look like BCP is going to return to that location. That seems unfortunate to me.

It's also important to know that each province has a sanitary fence meaning we can't leave Chiriqui without a salvoconducto.
It probably affect too many viewers here, but the restriction on kids seems absurd to me.

I've never heard of tea tree oil until Brundageba mentioned it here. A google search reveals that it's pretty useful stuff.
This fly situation is very location specific. In past years, I've had quite a few flies at the start of rainy season. As of right now, ....(knocks on wood...), I hardly have any.

It is time to increase the length of the quarantine window, if nothing else. It is unacceptable to risk a fine and towing for making a necessary trip to David.
-
It was badly needed here. The streams are just a trickle. I wouldn't have minded another inch or more.

They seem to be working again. I don't know what happened, but it was a widespread problem. The banks wouldn't explain the problem or even give notice of it, which was an additional frustration.

This is interesting, but I suspect everyone will come back negative. We don't have any recent cases in Boquete, and the few that did have it were isolated and have recovered. I would love to test positive for antibodies, but that won't get me out of quarantine. I still may do it because I did have a mild fever a few weeks ago.
Solar Storm Expected to Hit Earth Soon Could Cause Power Grid, Satellite, and Internet Disruptions

It is unforgiveable that the world, and especially first world countries, have done nothing to prepare for a solar storm like the Carrington Event that occurred just before the American Civil War. That, and an EMP generated by any country with nuclear weapons who could detonate an nuclear bomb in the atmosphere, would fry virtually all electronics and certainly the power grid. It's almost certainly going to happen, and it turns off civilization in the affected area at least for months.
