    JohnF13,

You're 100% correct.   Watch the following movie, it's being shunned by many.

    Ban?  Never mentioned one.

Policies of the U.S. government concerning Hauwei, the likes of which forced the arrest of a Canadian resident in Canada, are definitely a concern to other nations.

The ban is the only issue that I'm aware of with Huawei, perhaps you could share with us any additional information you may have.

As for that Canadian being arrested, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police saw merit in the charges and thus arrested them and proceeded with an extradition trail.

This may not be the service for U.S. citizens who are aligned and in agreement with the anti-HUAWEI policies of the U.S. governmen.  The hardware is all HAUWEI.

In addition to the US, many countries throughout the world have instated "bans" on further Huawei communications installments.  This "ban" is only of concern to nations who are innovators in technology and or who are of global strategic military significance.  Japan who by far leads the world in innovation to name one.  Militarily wise, specifically NATO members, the US in North America and Australia in the South Pacific, for their dominant nuclear military strength and strategic geographically located military installations respectively.

We're lucky here in Latin America like in many parts of the world in that there's very little if none at all technological innovation and certainly no significant military installations to speak of.  Here we're blessed with the tranquility of nature, agriculture, and tourism.

It's an editorial truthfully pointing out the inaccuracies and false narratives promoted and broadcast by FOX News that have endangered thousands of lives, although your vision may be too narrow to understand.

NYC's mayor Bill De Blasio downplayed the Coronavirus eight time:

I can flood this discussion with dozens of Youtube videos of other politicians such as NYC's director of public health Oxiris Barbot, NY's governor Andrew Cuomo, and Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi downplaying the Corona virus numerous times both in press briefings and television shows recently as three weeks ago but that's beyond the scope of the charter of Chiriqui Life.

It was my understanding that the discussion of US politics was forbidden here.

The Daily Show?  A late night comedy television show.

"The Daily Show is an American late-night talk and news satire television program. It airs each Monday through Thursday on Comedy Central. Describing itself as a fake news program, The Daily Show draws its comedy and satire from recent news stories, political figures, media organizations, and often uses self-referential humor as well."

Reliable information concerning COVID-19 has been available from Epidemiologists at the WHO for weeks now while the US has been filtering reports and updates from Health officials  through the Administration, who have been offering alternative facts, statistics, and conspiracy theories.

    Keith,

What conspiracy theories has the US been offering?

I've read about the conspiracy theory that the CIA planted the Coronavirus in China but that certainly wasn't the US's doing.  Conversely, many throughout the world have speculated that China hasn't been forthcoming with the Coronavirus.

Well worth every dime !   We have one.   Pressure here sometimes  is as high as Keith describes ...actually higher .   I have always wondered about the possibility of water pressure regulation inline in a subdivision such as ours (Brisas)  where both the lower houses and as well the ones on higher ground could receive equal pressure without bursting lines at the seams. The pressure here can be so high as to create leaks to the surface from below the storm drains in the street...when it's that high I know to run our hose in the yard to reduce pressure so we don't have a gusher inside the house.  When we leave for vacation we turn the water to the house off at the street.

When we moved here 12 years ago, we knew that there was a large community reserve tank that supposedly supplied Brisas .  That tank we were told by the government could not be used for some regulatory reason.  It's now sitting empty...rusting.   It would be nice to define these water issue problems that have been repeating for over a decade, , solve them, and if necessary allow the Brisas community to assist in moving to a solution.  To date the problems repeat "as if" undefined as to their cause.  ( high , low pressure and outage..unannounced)

Question:   I notice a huge subdivision built on the road to Caldera just before Boquete Canyon Village.  Looks like a hundred homes or more.  How will we ( in Brisas ) receive adequate water service once all those homes come on-line if issues unresolved remain.....unresolved for over a decade?

    Brundageba,

As you can imagine, a network of pressure regulators for an entire subdivision would be costly in addition to the costs associated with the required routine maintenance.  When I evaluated the Brisas subdivision years ago the realtor stated that within the year the roads were going to be repaved as well as the completion of a club house and pool too.  They also told me that they were going to expand the road to Lucero to four lanes.  Don't get me started on the realtors here in Boquete!

As for adequate water service for that new subdivision on the road to Caldera, well, I think they're still trying to figure out how to supply water to Ricardo Perez's new 1,200 home subdivision in El Frances.  Your guess is as good as any ones!

When I purchased my home I noticed small puddles of water behind one of the toilets and under the kitchen sink in the cabinet below every once in a while.  It didn't happen often but when I mentioned it to my neighbors they informed me that our neighborhood routinely experioences water pressures above 100 PSI which is in the danger zone for residential quality plumbing.  I had Grupo Aguas install a pressure regulator with my backup pump/tank system as seen in the attached photo and the problem never occurred again.  It's calibrated to only allow 60 PSI of municipal water to flow with my backup pump/tank system providing only 50 PSI in the event of a water outage which easily informs me (if I can't hear the pump turn on while it's raining) that there is low pressure or none at all as to warn me not to do laundry.  This differential in pressure is also noticeable during a shower indicating that there's an outage so that I know to conserve.

I recall the price of the pressure regulator being about $75 which of course is peanuts compared to the potential costs of repair due to dangerously high water pressures.  And I strongly recommend pressure regulators constructed of brass, not ones constructed of PVC.

Some very interesting comments about Boquete both in the Youtube video below and the associated public comments.  My favorite:

"Living in the Boquete area the past 8 years...let me tell you about the downside. ..... find a gated community with armed guards."

I think I've visited every gated community here in Boquete over the years and I never recall seeing armed guards!

Grupo Aguas in Alto Boquete located just north of Ivan's Ferreteria/Supermercado now sells and stocks Rheem brand tank based hot water heaters.  They've got both electric and gas models in 30, 40, and 50 gallon sizes.  The 50 gallon electric and gas models are priced (including tax) at $358 and $480 respectively.  They've even got a stash of spare parts on hand too!

There's a 50 gallon unit with my name on it!  No more having to rely on the folks in David for service!

For those who don't know they're the go to guys in Boquete for all of your water system needs.

I sure hope that our president doesn't follow suit!

Why drill a tunnel underneath the Canal if there's a bridge above? Trains are carried by multi-purpose bridges everywhere.

    Because they can.

All joking aside, the probability is that there's a company who builds tunnels looking for contracts and is willing to pay the right price to do so.

Inquiring minds want to know. What's going on with the giant excavation between the northbound and southbound lanes of the David highway just a little south of Dolega?

I don't know what they're doing now but at the bottom of that ravine they dug they installed large water lines, say a good 3' to 5' in diameter in size before they covered them up.

So there's no Amazon or other internet sales there? I feel for the people you left behind.

For Amazon or internet sales people without bank accounts or credit or debit cards just do what they've been doing for decades, purchase items using money orders from banks, pharmacies, etc.  In fact online retailers such as Amazon have also accepted their own gift cards which can be purchased at 100,000s of retail locations in addition to using the new Amazon Pay service which too is just as widely available.

There are countries that do not discriminate, I'm sure that Panama will do so eventually.
