  1. Monday, March 25: Volcan. This field trip investigates the structure and history of Volcan Baru with special emphasis on its caldera northeast of the city of Volcan. This trip requires vehicles that can safely negotiate poor roads. Monday, April 1: Gualaca and Caldera. The older terrain east of Volcan Baru is the focus of this trip. In this terrain igneous activity is related to the intrusion of magma along old faults.   2. There are a few openings for the introductory geology field trip this Friday, January 20. This trip will help participants understand some of the geologic features visible in the immediate Boquete area. The trip takes approximately four hours and is a morning trip. There is no charge for this trip. If interested, please email Welthy at welthyh@gmail.com. Please indicate if you have a car and are able to take a few passengers. The trip leader is Dr. Paul Myers, emeritus professor of geology at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.
  3. A "last of the season" introductory geology field trip is being offered on Wednesday, May 11. This is a half day trip by car around Boquete in which the trip organizer, Paul Myers, will introduce participants to some of the interesting geological features in this beautiful part of the country. The trip leaves San Francisco Plaza in Alto Boquete at 8 am and will take approximately 4 hours. There is no charge. Dr. Myers is an emeritus professor of geology at the University of Wisconsin/Eau Claire. It interested, please email welthyh@gmail.com. Include the first and last names of everyone in your party and whether you have a car. Every effort is made to pair non drivers with people with cars. There is no charge for this trip.
  4. The last introductory geology field trip of the season will take place on Wednesday, May 11. Trip participants will meet at San Francisco Plaza at 8:00 am. The trip will last approximately four hours. No serious walking involved. This is the last introductory trip until November. The trip is being offered by Dr. Paul Myers, emeritus professor of geology at the University of Wisconsin. If interested, kindly respond to: welthyh@gmail.com. Please give the full names of all in your party and indicate if you have a vehicle and if you would be willing to drive one or two other people. Thanks.
  5. A geology field trip, which is an introduction to the geology of the Boquete area, is being offered on Wednesday, March 11. Trip members will meet at the San Francisco plaza at 8:00 and return by 12:00. No serious walking involved. The trip is being offered by Dr. Paul Myers, Professor Emeritus of the University of Wisconsin. This will be the last trip until November. If interested please respond by email to welthyh@gmail.com.   6. A few spaces are available for an introductory trip to the geology of the Boquete area on Monday, April 4. The trip will start at the San Francisco Plaza in Alto Boquete at 8 am. This is a half day trip. Very little walking is required. The trip is under the supervision of Dr. Paul Myers, Geology Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. Participants will meet at the San Francisco Plaza at 8 a.m. This trip normally takes about 4 hours. Very little walking is required. We drive to several sites around Boquete. If you are willing to drive, please indicate this in your response along with the number of people in your party and their names. All participants are asked to wear masks while in the cars and be vaccinated. This field trip is provided by Dr. Paul Myers, a field geologist who taught geology for over 35 years at the University of Wisconsin.
