Reconfiguration of Classified Ads Here on CL

This announcement is no longer active

The classified advertisements category of forums here on Chiriqui.Life were reconfigured shortly after going into production in October 2015 based on strong feedback from our members. That reconfiguration resulted in disallowing (yes, NOT allowing) anyone other than website management to post a reply to a topic. The strong feedback at that time was to make CL's ads like a newspaper, such that once published the posting (advertisement) could not change. That was what members wanted at that time.

In these intervening months, member feedback has continued to come in requesting us to remove the prohibition of posting replies to advertisements. What has become apparent to most is that there is a difference between a newspaper and a website. Newspapers come and go, but website content is there -- very public and very visible -- forever. The member feedback has been received, and is now being responded to; replies to advertisements can now be posted by CL members.

Effective immediately, any registered member with permission to create a new topic can now not only create a new topic (an advertisement) in the classified ads category of forums (the second main category on our website), BUT also reply to any posting that has been put there by themselves or anyone else.

What this means is that, for example, John Doe posts an ad to sell his car, but it does not get sold. He can then post a reply to reduce the price (or provide more information, or perhaps additional pictures, etc.) on his original posting. Additionally, if Sally Smith is interested in that car, but has questions (e.g., does it have air conditioning, etc.), then Sally can inquire about the original posting for clarification. There are many variations on this scenario, but hopefully you get the idea here -- that is, to allow a dialogue about classified advertisements to be engaged in via CL in that forum and specific to any topic of interest.

Once an item has been sold or otherwise is no longer to be advertised, the originator can then post that the item is sold or no longer available. A topic originator still will not be able to delete the original posting (along with any replies). To delete an ad, the originator will still need to request such action of a CL management person, either by posting a request as a reply on their topic or simply sending an email (support@chiriqui.life) or a private message (to @Admin_01).

We are going to give this reconfiguration a trial run to see how things work for CL members. Feedback is always solicited. Please let us know if we are going in the right direction.
